The closest to "horror" that I can think of is Higurashi, though I might just be recommending that because it's my favorite anime. Don't quit after episode 4, it's really not that hard to understand the concept of story arcs.
I can offer you a pretty cool Korean manga (if someone can provide the link)
Is it that one manga, Uzumaki? That manga is creepy as flippers. Creeped me so so much </3
But there's one anime, it's not really scary but just really really really dark and depressing. I couldn't bring myself to finish it tbh. Thing's got too real and weird.
edens garden-manga which pretty much a highschool class crashes on a island and they have to adapt and survive the horrors of each other and the island which is like damn crazy
There's only really gore/mystery, no real horror. Another, mirai nikki, and higurashi no naku koro ni are good. Corpse party ova is only gore, not much plot, if you like that.
As HolyBloodly said. There are no reall horror anime. sad anime though.. Tokyo Ghoul I recommend. Phantom of Requiem is one of my favorite. M3 - Sono Kuroki Hagane is as close as it gets I guess
Hm, if gore then Blood C is good, also, Gantz, Shigurui, D. Gray-Man, Berserk, Deadman wonderland, Death Note, HellSing, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, Kemonozume, Monster Princess, Phantom of Requiem. All have horror aspects, some more than others.
Elfen Lied if that's even considered horror.
Just lots of gore.
Elfen Lied is not gore, its a comedy. But in all seriousness having lots of blood =/= gore, its just a very bloody action with bad plot.

Just lots of gore.
Mononoke off the top of my head. Maybe Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales too

Horror doesn't exist in the anime medium. Read some manga if you want horror.
Red Garden, Blue Gender, Berserk (ending) and Gantz (though the anime is trash) probably come the closest to something resembling horror.
