Mental hospital experiences?

Has anyone been in a metal hospital before? If so, please share your experience
I was in one in April for suicidal attempts / thoughts and self harm,
I never thought I would be in one, my experience was absolutely terrible, because It was scary at first I cried most of the time because I had my stay extended.
The food was good, an i met lots of people who went through the same things. We mostly had scheduled groups and therapy. But other than that it helped me.
Please, Share your experiences
@XxVVolvesxX: But that proves that were using him to keep you mentally stable but it didnt work seeing how you went to the hospital anyways. Also have you told him about all the attempts plus the mental hospital? If not then the trust is only one way.
I'm not using him, and no he called the cops on me because I told him I would kill myself. And then I attempted when the cops got in my room. I
Don't wanna talk about it anymore -3- I'm moved on now

I went there for my clinical rotation as a nurse and it was stable. You can't escape the doors are locked tight, windows are safe...staff is nice and will work with you. Group therapy is great too.
@XxVVolvesxX: I had to black list because of that link, cant let that get out on basil. But really you just got out and claim to be better. No youre not cause the thoughts are still there and it takes one bad experience for all those suicidal desires to come flooding back to the front of your head. Think of it like a drug addict or an alcoholic who just leaves rehab then goes to a party where they are surrounded by their "former" weakness most of the time they will say "oh I can do it a little bit I have control" but no they dont and they just fall off the wagon again. No doctor would advise you to jump into a relationship when you are still fragile cause of the problems it can cause especially when you are using the other person as a crutch for your mental and emotional stability.
nuu Ive been with him since before the hospital.. Like a month before the hospital or two. I know I'm not fully ok but Ive learned a lot when I was there so I can be sad without doing other stuff.. hm.. I'm also taking a break from him too so I can be like fully ok by next year and that's what the marines is for! Haha -3-

I had to go to saturday school a whole bunch during high school. One day I saw this guy who missed a few weeks of school there. He said he had to go to a mental hospital cause he tried committing suicide by downing a bottle of tylenol. Other than that the university I go to is right next to a bunch of halfway houses so there are a bunch of schizos walking around the library.

@XxVVolvesxX: so how many accounts do you have in reserve to "make me look like a fool" this time? Saw one of them on friday and having david in the name was a nice touch. How about you go with an erick next?
Welp, guess I stand corrected. Gotta admit that I know next to nothing about mental illnesses, but seeing how my sister ended up in a hospital again it's about time I wised up a bit.

Snovvy, ya said some of that stuff like schizophrenia requires chemical treatments, by that I assume pills and the like? And Wallflowers might refer to those as well, or was additionally talking about seeing a ther_pist/psychologist (man I have no idea where to draw the line between those). My sis has been both on pills AND talking to some shrink every now and again, but - and yes, I'm probably a jackass for that - I just can't see how talking to someone about whatever ya got is gonna help in fixing that. I got a strong "do it yourself or don't do it at all"-train of thought so I believe if I had a problem that can be cured without medicine, I might as well think about it myself instead of visiting some professional.
And speaking of medication, if they are needed to fix a physical problem inside the brain, is such an illness naturally occuring from birth like a defect? Or can something like a traumatic event lead to such physical problems? Furthermore, are there mental illnesses that can be EITHER aquired at birth OR later on through what the person experienced?
Pills are one form of treatment. There are many other treatments though, besides the various types of therapy. With certain illnesses, especially phobias, therapy is the go-to treatment. The reason phobias respond so well is because phobias are conditioned into a person, and so they are often treated through a process called systematic desensitization. For other issues, like depression, therapy addresses not only behavioral problems but also your thoughts, hence why it gets called cognitive-behavioral therapy. CBT actively challenges a person's thought processes and forces them to question and acknowledge the irrationality of their beliefs. Therapy however cannot treat physiological problems, i.e. the chemical imbalance, and so therapy is paired with, or even disregarded entirely in favor of medication for a lot of disorders.

And some illnesses are triggered by events, like PTSD; while others can be inherited, like schizophrenia. And many others can be either.
Mental problems aren't such a visual eyecatcher as physical ones, so I suppose if someone LOOKS regular ya might be surprised when they aren't. Personally i also feel like psychological problems can (or SHOULD be) actively solved by the person him-/herself, while wounds or anything physical usually reqcuire medical treatment.
So you're just going to go up to someone who has for example, hemophobia and say "Get over it, it's just blood" and think everything will be all fine and dandy afterwards?

lolnope, it's not as easy as you think. You personally may "get over" your problems but you're not in other people's shoes are you? And you're also saying that we shouldn't pay attention to serious disorders such as schizophrenia as much as the physical problems? >_>

I go to a "Lunatic Asylum" to study towards my Bachelor of Architectural Studies degree.

It's actually a University now, but it was a mental institution back until the 1970s. There is a mental institution that is still operational on campus though. It was infamous for its use of shock treatment on patients.

They made a good effort to give the building a lot less of a mental asylum feel, but when you know that there are a recorded 200 suicides that occurred in and around the building, it's a bit awkward.
Im gonna have to say that youre telling the truth since there were no hate threads against me during this period.
Being as awesome as I am I never need this stuff just my biweekly injections and im good to go. Yes @nashi I have a trail mix with goji berry, i found it.
dahell is a trail mix? a MIX? should have tried to get pure goji berry... but then again dried fruits are healthy in general so enjoy!
OT: Nope no experience at all. I never had actual active suicide attempts or major issues like that (I had the normal kinda teen-depression) and i hope I won't end up there either
good to hear it helped you though. Would nice if more people that need help will go get it then without being scared of being labelled or being treated like a crazy freak with no chance of improvement or something

I took a half-assed tour while my mother and a board member were recruiting a doctor there for one for our clinics/network. It was strange that we were invited there instead of the other way around.

The air was nice. I watched Take Shelter later that night. That's all.

I'm very afraid of the possibility of spending time in one. For the meantime I get by on loads of pills.

I have dropped plenty of crazy people off at mental hospitals. I usually find they have a lot of locked doors and the craziest of crazies. I have only been to one really nice one. There was also a hot receptionist so I told my partner I wouldn't mind being locked up there haha.

I had the chance to stay in one for a case of depression, but getting help from people doesn't really fly with me. It's been a year or so since I rejected it and I think I'm doing fine on my own. Must've been a fluke or something...
