Learning how to get carried is as useful a skill as getting carried. What I mean by this is, everybody has bad games, games where they don't do so well. But a good player will be able to not be a (large) hindrance to his team by not feeding excessively and allowing the players who are doing better than him to "carry" him.

Then again, this might all be irrelevant in s5 if noone in the game know how to carry.

I climbed from Gold 4 to Diamond 3 in a couple months with my friends. imo duo queue > solo queue by a long shot, because you have a friend playing with you, not some whiny 0/12 instalocker.
imo dont climb unless you have a friend or you really want the victorious skin

I climbed from silver 5 to gold 1 pretty quickly. Just learn katarina and fizz and you'll climb the ladder easily

are your friends within your reach of skill level? i climbed from silver 5 to gold 3 when my friends were all gold-plat level. just because i want to be as good as them.

Try watching streamers who play your lane and copy what they do. So for instance, if you play top and notice the streamer is roaming a LOT and letting his first tier 1 tower at top go while he makes plays bot and takes bot tower and dragon and stuff, try to control the map like he is.
