I started NullJob with little more than a couple thousand mesos, a piece of string, and a tiny plastic toy which barely qualified as a sword. Now I'm level 76 with a couple million mesos, two pieces of string, and a paper map which barely qualifies as a sword. You don't need funding at all. That being said, @icy89firaga got it perfectly.
Even if you were to leech, which is a legitimate form of training despite the former poster's opinion, you wouldn't necessarily need to spend much money on it if you have good buddies willing to help you out, or an alternate account with which to train yourself.
As for equipment, you will be set with an average Zhelm, ATK glove, and a decent weapon. Anything else you want to get is up to you, as your damage will be crappy no matter how much money you pump into your character.
