Paint.Net
I just use it to do simple edits, not much of a drawer.
Though I would really like PhotoShop to make pictures for my websites, and to open up Vector images.

As a whole, Photoshop is the best. I don't even use it, but there's a ton of things you can do with it! It has tons of brushes, effects, you name it. There's a reason why most professionals use it (and why it has a market value of $679).

Easy Paint Tool SAI is focused primarily on lineart and painting -- both of which it performs well in. I use it because that's all I need (and it takes less than 1/10th of Photoshop's memory space, which also means that it runs much faster). You can use it for 30 days before you're prevented from saving pictures. You can buy a license, like I did, for about $50.

Personally, I think the best "paint tool" is still pen and paper. Well, more traditional-style media. I only use computer programs because I can't buy nice coloring/inking tools like copic markers, etc. Also, it's easier to share works with digital media (...yet I don't, really).
I have the greatest respect for people who can draw using real-life materials. There are a few on Basil who excel at doing this
Actually, and I have absolutely NO idea how I did this, I just kept uninstalling and re-installing Paint Tool SAI and the trial kept resetting itself, and after a few trials, I just got the whole entire thing permanently. it's been around a year since then, and I've used it nonstop, and I still save things with it. Again I don't know how ti happened or why it happened, it just happened.

OT: Photoshop for realism, painttool sai for more of a traditional look, though you can also achieve realism on painttool sai. Photoshop is one of the best for editing though.

Yes, some people agree there is nothing better than good ol' MSPaint and paper with pencils.

How about GIMP? I just downloaded it, but not many people seem to use it here. I don't know yet if it's only an image editor or if you can also use it for painting.

I use crayons, by the way. But my scanner ruins the colours.

Ahh.. Nothing beats pencil + paper + color pencils (: (personal opinion)

SAI for painting.
Photoshop for higher end digital work.
PENCIL AND PAPER for everything better. Traditional media overrules digital.
