Havent played since big bang patch. Help

Hey guys, I'm off to college in two days. I decided on my last day before college that I was going to go back and play all the games I played throughout my childhood. Maplestory was something that I played early on, in middle school. I probably spent ~500 hours on this game back then.
TL : DR ~level 155ish marksmen, ~1.5 bill in equips as of 2011ish, what would you guys recommend that I play for three hours?

I quit right around the big bang patch, once it was completely apparent the game was 100% p2w. (Miracle cubes came out around that time if I remember correctly) I could keep up decently (crossbowmen were never super expensive equip wise), but I was never that good.
For some perspective, when I started (2008-2009ish?)
From 1-10 put all points in dex, take forever to get out of noobie island to southperry.
Grind in Victoria Island from 10-30 at ~40% an hour
Messing around in lubridium, LPQ and Monster Carnival. 30-50.
50-70 was all LMPQ ~40 to 30% an hour
70-80 was windraiders (always died to bigfoot....... damn that 10k dmg) 30%/hour
80-105 was typhons 20%/hour
105-130ish was newts, skeles if I happen to get hyperbody. 15-5%/hour (absolute hell) ->> http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Ahh_i_remember_this-Funny_or_Weird-Screen-214104.html
130+ was RGST bossing with snipe (back when snipe was 100% hit, abuse puppet + auto-aggro to avoid 9k dmg), Skeles, random other stuff. ~10%/hour. Actually faster to merch and buy a 2x exp buff or something than to legit train.

Notable equips/money stuff:
Back when the self HB glitch was around, I got permanent self HB right when potential came out.
Mark of Narconian (10 attack pendent)
Bought a zhelm from the Intensity guild, back when there was a zak run schedule
136 attack dragon shiner crossbow or something.
Made a huge amount of money off the 50% scroll giveaway. The price went from 5 mill to 500mill + during the time I was playing.
I never bought nexon cash throughout the entire time, although I bought it with mesos from other players frequently.

Notable events in the game that I remember:

Huge DC hacking at channel 1 FM 1-3 in Windia, DC hacking constantly at horntail, huge chaos scroll exploit that resulted in near infinite chaos scrolls. Anyone who bought more than ~5 was permabanned. Constant server crashes and item duping. Meso selling spammers were everywhere, especially PQ areas and the FM. Time temple came out, DOJO came out, PYPQ I think was released, but removed eventually because of botters.

Best boss solos:

Countless pap clock solos
Zak arm solo (pre-time limit)
RGST solo
Body Guard A --> may have been shortly after big bang patch http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Level_142_body_gaurd_a_solo-Boss-Screen-197296.html
Body Guard B --> may have been shortly after big bang patch
Pianus solo (self hb ftw)

Best group bossing runs:

Lots of Zakum
Mark of Narconian boss runs
We nearly got horntail but got D/C hacked. I died a lot, wasn't doing much DPS.

Pink bean came out, but hadn't been defeated. In fact, the people attempting it got accidentally permabanned by the autoban for doing 'too much dmg', but it was undone by nexon. The autoban had not been updated to account for new items.

What's the game like these days? If anyone wants to hang out I'm downloading the game and it should be done in ~40 minutes.
Everything is SO CONFUSING.

Although the p2w trend is annoying, I think that you guys are a little too pessimistic about the games future. Back when I started, as soon as cubes came out people said the game would be shut down within two years, and you guys are still here, right? How large is the player base? I couldn't find anyone in NLC or Haunted Mansion.
Can someone P/C the following equips?
I currently have ~100 mill in cash.

17 dex scar helm
MoN +10attack +5/5/5/5 + 200 hp + 200 mp
+7/6/7/2 +8WA untradable shoulder
126 WA dragon shiner cross with +6% total dmg +12 dex
6% dex earrings
6% dex boots (bowmen lvl 100ish)
6 WA 3% dex gloves (bowmen lvl 100ish)
+16 dex + 6% dex overall (bowmen lvl 100ish)
Eh, if you really believe so Maple hit something of a second golden period around late 2011-early 2012, after people adjusted to big bang and empress equips began to appear; suddenly, there were a lot more decently high level people that were able to experience maple to the fullest. Hell, the only reason I've ever even gone on boss runs is because of the new updates, and I'll admit the new classes are a lot of fun. Big part of the reason that I got addicted to Maple again.

However, Nexon inexplicably decided to gut its own game by making things pay2win and inaccessible, even more so than ever; by the time Nexon really realized that they had made a mistake, a lot of people had already quit, and most of the people that still remained were people that had either invested a lot of time and/or money into the game.
The core of an MMORPG is its playerbase, and Maple's current playerbase is a shadow of what it used to be; like I said before, you should just go ahead and take a nostalgia trip, maybe try out some of the new classes. The events have become repetitive and pointless due to Maplestory's infamous history with hackers.

On the topic of your equips, I'm afraid you're going to have a somewhat difficult time finding a buyer. The equips that have been released over the past few years have become increasingly powerful, and what you have is really better for your own personal use now. Good luck, Maplestory's still just as addicting, but lacks the substance that made it worth playing
Can someone give me a quick summary of important patches, and what they changed?
How the hell could you ever hit remotely near 50 mill? Are there tons of % multipliers or something? Event items?
Also: all I remember were that pink adventurer capes with 8 attack used to be like 1.8 bill.. How could a cape have more attack than a weapon....
Boobs sound ok though, think positively?
K so Big Bang came out December 2010. I'll give a 1~2 sentence summary of all big patches since then;

June 2011 - Chaos - Aran & Evan got their much needed buffs.
The Profession system replaced the Maker system and completely overhauled crafting. Now you can learn Alchemy to make potions, Jewel Crafting to make accessories, and Smithing to make weapons & armor.
Release of Corrupted Empress Cygnus and her chief knights as bosses that drops then-endgame-worthy Lv140 armor/weapons.

Fall 2011 - Ascension - Explorer warriors/archers/mages got buffed slightly.
Bunch of new PQs released, old ones revamped.

Winter 2011 - Legends - Release of Cannon Shooter (3rd Adventurer pirate class), Mercedes (Archer hero class), Demon Slayer (Resistance warrior)

Summer 2012 - Renegades - Release of Phantom (Thief hero class).
Explorer thieves and pirates got buffed slightly.

Winter 2012 - Tempest - Release of Luminous (2nd Mage hero). Everyone felt trolled that Nexon released another Mage hero class instead of a Pirate hero.
The new Nova branch classes were also released (Kaiser = A 2h sword warrior class with a dragon theme, Angelic Buster = A Barbie who was the most OP class ever made at the time cuz they were the only class to be able to break the damage cap of 999k.
Click here to see a Youtube video and prepare to have your jaws dropped at how retardedly OP they once were. Don't worry though, Angelic Busters got nerfed very hard.

Spring 2013 - Mark of Honor - Release of previously JapanMS exclusive classes = Hayato (a samurai) and Kanna (an okami-themed mage who uses fans)

Late Spring 2013 - Cygnus Returns - Dawn Warrior/Wind Archer/Thunder Breaker completely overhauled. Their max level cap raised to 200 from 120.
*Blaze Wizard and Night Walker got their overhaul more recently in KMS and should come to us within the next 1-2 months.

Summer 2013 - Unleashed - Damage cap raised to 50,000,000 from 999,999. Level cap of all classes increased to 250 from 200.
Huge HP/ATT buff to all bosses. Release of Lv140+ Hyper Skills for ALL classes to (sorta) accommodate the buff. Peak of the pay2win theme.
Release of Xenon (Resistance Pirate/Thief hybrid class) and Demon Avenger (2nd Resistance warrior).
Release of Root Abyss where its bosses drop Lv150 armor/weapons. These replace Empress armors/weapons as the new (and still currently used as) endgame equips.

Winter 2013 - RED - Complete overhaul of all Explorer classes. Release of the 'Zero' class.
Various stuff implemented to make the game significantly less pay2win since Nexon realized they screwed up with the Unleashed update. (EX: Craftable cubes)

Early Summer 2014 - Rising Heroes - Release of Shade (Pirate hero).

And last week we got a 2nd Mark of Honor update that adds additional content that was JapanMS exclusive.
- -
- -
- In between all these patches, numerous new areas, monsters, and countless quests were released. Existing monsters got buffed as well (EX: Robos in Ludibrium were around Lv60 around the time you quit, now they're Lv100).

Oh and D/C hacking is pretty much gone now.

Two very useful sites
This blog has an in-depth description of every patch about to be released in KoreanMS. Coincidentally he started around June 2011, so go look through his archives. If you have the time you can look through it.
*Btw it takes about 5-6 months for a patch that was released in KMS to be applied to GMS.

www.maple [dot] fm (can't actually type the site's URL since Basil censored it) is a legit site that shows ALL items being sold at the Free Market realtime.

Hope I helped.

Yea it was Unleashed that threw Maple into a terrible, dark, cold, scary place...

Big Bang didn't ruin the game, it was a great update, but unfortunately Nexon created THE boss in the Chaos update called "Empress Cygnus" which was most definitely p2w, only to find out she was intentionally glitched for one or two years to be unbeatable. The next screw up, and the WORST update in Maple history, on Nexon's agenda was Unleashed. This update embraced the p2w aspect and gave bosses like 10x the Hp and raised the damage cap to 50m while not hardly helping the players out at all in terms of damage. Even with full 6-12 person parties, you could hardly scratch the bosses' Hp which was NOT fair at all. All kinds of other crap came along with it like Kaiser and Angelic Buster, boobs showing up in maplestory artwork, ect. A very dark time indeed...

The game has been getting better (Thank god!) and in November/December we SHOULD be getting the recent KMS update that makes the Equip Enhancement system uber amazing to hopefully fix a MASSIVE chunk of balancing issues in the game and rip a huge hole out of the p2w aspect.
Overall, it's essential for an MMO to have either P2W items to catch up or damage creep from new items. If not, the people who have been playing for the longest amount of time are just way too far ahead from anyone else. While most people consider those things annoying, they are essential for the long term health of a game. Imagine if the game was still as difficult as it was in 2009; It would take 5000+ hours to get to 200, anyone who hadn't played in that time period would be just hopelessly behind everyone else, and no one would start playing.
Hah, there are capes with higher weapon attack than my Aran's best polearm, and I ain't even poor

Maplestory's been butchered, your best bet is to take a nostalgia trip and do the things you remember that you used to love about this game

because, back then, the damage cap was 999,999. I was able to cap back then and it wasn't that hard to attain. Now, damage cap is 50,000,000. The difference between funded and unfunded it would be realistic to compare unfunded as a baby crawling vs someone on a drag race car.

Hahhahahahhaha

Maple's gotten so ridiculous that nexon raised the damage cap because people were doing too much damage for the game to register

I played a lot of starcraft 2 (diamond league) and league of legends (gold league scrub), but I decided I would come back and play maplestory one last time. No coma, I just didn't have time to play an MMO.

Pb is easy if you have people helping you that are also not funded ._. And if you see a guy named reji on windia, run.

thanks; If you had to pick something for me to do if I was to play for ~3 hours with crappy equips, what should I do? Client currently installing. Also did anyone ever take down pink bean? Is it even still a hard boss?

Holy smokes 100's of billions! My net worth when I quit was 1.5 bill. Unfortunately I didn't convert that to NX or something and with inflation 1.5bill is probably worthless these days.

There's also a fairly good chance that my account got hacked to pieces because I havn't touched it in years, and my password SUCKED.

The game is still very pay to win. Most of the events require you to kill x amount of monsters and it's still repetitive. The level cap is now 250 and there are a bunch of new classes. Becoming funded requires 100's of billions of mesos too. : Nexon has implemented ways to get cubes and special scrolls without NX but it's still somewhat rare. Feel free to account buddy me on the ign "Caeg".
