Help on convincing parents?

So lately I've been thinking about my future (You: UGHHH screw dis thread) and I've been thinking of leaving Canada to go study in Japan. Considering since I was 8 I've always wanted to live in Japan so bad that I wanted to be raised there. So I found the most amazing thing ever. HAL. HAL Japan is a specialty college for those who want to go into the gaming industry or IT. I want to go study Game Programming and I believe I can apply to all HAL institutes. Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. Do you guys have any points I can use to convince my mom and dad to let me study overseas?

Well, If it were my kid trying to convince me he would need to:

1. Figure out how he will pay for it. I probably would ahve saved something for school, but this is exsessive. (Scholarships, travel costs, how?)
2. Convince me that the program is good and will get results. (like hiring rates for graduates, statistics etc)
3. Rea sure me that going overseas will not take him/her out of my life. (Will you come home for holidays, will you live there forever, when and how often a year would I see you)

You know game design isn't as fabulous as it seems, for the first 5 or so years you don't even 'design' a game.

All you do is play around on a game that some company has already designed finding bugs and then reading through thousands of lines of code to fix it, rinse and repeat for 14 hours a day for 5 or so years.

Convince them that you will be successful and that you know what you're doing. Tell them how great you'll do and be.

I have done a bit of programming in the past and know it IS what I want to do. However I was thinking of preparing a power point on everything about my adventures in Japan. Like costs, scholarships, japanese school, apartments and food. It's almost all been taken care of really.

So naive... if only it were that easy.

First try persuading them with the honest truth, how you feel, blablabla... if that fails your best bet is to search for ways to get some moolah and study their without their support.
