That's actually really interesting, but have they made enough for Nexon to even consider suing them? LOL No point in wasting resources in litigation if they cant even pay you back.
That's usually the kind of thing companies have to calculate when deciding whether to sue over copyright infringement.
A 15 year old doing modded tracks isn't likely to be able to even cover their legal costs, so it wouldn't make sense to jump on him unless they wanted to use him "as an example" to keep other people from wanting to try it too.
The fact that he's releasing an entire album that has other game music in it might attract attention from other game publishers, unless he or his distributor has made some kind of licensing arrangements to legally use the music. That's the kind of thing his music publishing company should have checked out before selling the album in Japan.

@privaron True enough... it's just odd they dropped off the face of the Earth all at once like that after having been so successful, and as you pointed out, for various companies.
It's the kind of thing that often happens to small indie companies when a big company takes notice and buys them up.
Guess it doesn't really matter.
@privaron: Yes, the normal way "work for hire" operates is the company hiring the work owns the rights to the music.
But it doesn't appear StudioEIM exists any more. Their web page is dead (last entry on the blog is December 2013), the last entry on their Facebook page was December 2013 and the last post on their Twitter account was January 2014. Same with their SoundCloud page. There's no announcement they're quitting or changing their name and nothing seems to appear after that time.
Makes me wonder if they weren't just bought out and sucked up by Nexon at the beginning of this year.
All that really indicates is that StudioEIM haven't been taking on any new projects. To say that they've been acquired by Nexon is jumping to conclusions, especially considering that they have had many partners (50+ according to their official website). Also, as @Midget pointed out, it seems some of the newer soundtracks are composed by other artists, so its not entirely unlikely for Nexon to have multiple VGM composers at their beck and call.
Did Nexon gobble them up like they did Wizet..?
Their existence as a separate entity seems to stop around December 2013, although it looks like they're still doing music for the games.
The music has been one of the most consistent things about Maplestory.. I hope that doesn't change.

@zomgitbeandy Could turn out to be interesting... Niazura is Japanese, lives in Belgium and is apparently 15 years old. His music is being sold through iTunes in Japan.
His publisher is Kadokawa, a BIG media publishing company in Japan whose lawyers are probably on top of licensing issues, if any.

Then again, even The Beatles got sued over songs sounding too much like previous works.

All of Maplestory's soundtracks are composed by a VGM composer group called StudioEIM. They are all original soundtracks, which means they were composed specifically for use in MS, and ownership rights over the music belong to Nexon.
Well, no. From my understanding, StudioEIM isn't a subsidiary of Nexon (unlike Wizet). What's usually the case is that VGM composers are obligated to relinquish their music ownership rights through a contractual industry-standard 'work for hire' agreement. It only makes sense considering how video game publishers need the rights to the game assets in order to legally control its distribution.
@zomgitbeandy My guess is that Nexon licensed the music from the original composer.
Game companies don't always have their own people at pianos composing music for them, they just buy the rights to use someone else's music in the games.
Or it's just a coincidence.
