What do you guys eat for iftar/after dusk?
I'm trying to think of nutritional and healthy foods to keep my metabolism going.
Any tips on what to eat during iftar?
Ramadan Mubarak everyone.
No, lol. That'll kill us. It's from sunrise (around 4:15 a.m in Toronto) till sunset (around 8:55 p.m)

So about 16 and a half hours for me every day for the next month. It varies from place to place since the sunrise/sunset times for different countries is not constant.

We can eat and drink before sunrise and after sunset; we fast just during the hours of daylight.
Correct Brother! and this year in Toronto is gonna be tough, with the long hours, and the hot weather. May Allah(SWT) give us the strength to get through this blessed month
Ramadan is not just about fasting my friend. It is about resisting temptations, and to come closer to God. We are not allowed to eat, drink, have any sort of sexual intercourse, swear, alcohol, clubbing, and many other things. salaam and thank you for thinking outside of the fasting

My best friend is Muslim, so I decided to join him in fasting. I don't have any expectations for the entirety of Ramadan, but I would like to know the physical side of his religious commitment.

Ramadan isn't really that bad. I just stay nocturnal for the whole Ramadan and when I wake up, it's time to break our fasting. But can't do that this year since I got full time work Lesss go Ramadan come at me bro!

@NeverRIP:

I don't see how it' not Islamic law considering it states in the Qur'an that women should cover up apart from when in the presence of family.

Everytime, I go to Jordan, I feel like crap eating around everyone in the streets because, I am Christian and the population is Muslim mostly, but no I have never tried fasting but my mom has, and she has so much self control, she went 2 months once ;3 if that helps, I think that it is just plain hell.

I wish my future son will be like you, and awh. I get what youre saying, i hope its not too bad, but i guess you are right. LOL at the last sentence! Funny
Goodluck to ur mom, and you if youll ever fast (:

@xXSkittl3zz: Won't be fasting, but I'll help mom out since she'll be the one fasting I'll cook and do most of the chores for her since she'd be tired XD But thanks anyway c: I didn't mean to cheat but only eat if you have to XD The main reason to fast is to know how poor people feel like, since they can't get their hands on real food or clean water, not to hospitalize or kill yourself in the process

Wow. Amazing self control man. I can't even imagine to fast everyday for that long. I would hate to wake up early and eat.

The longest I've tried is 7 days doing the same thing as what people do in Ramadan.

@Aren: Oh didn't know that o: The most severe case I've seen on someone I know is dehydritation (or however you spell it).

@Swagerpants Yeah fasting can be good for you xD but it can be bad for you too. It's like trying to light up fire. If you aren't careful you might end up hurting yourself instead of (attempting) to participate in Ramadan.

@Aren Not trying to prove you wrong or anything, but it's only if you keep on doing that for a longer period isn't it? Like 3-4 months. Besides, most people are smart nowadays and go to a doctor and ask them if they should fast or not. Even if it's not good for the body, I doubt fasting for 30 days can cause any bigger harm except for people with weaker hearts or bodies, who requires daily nutrition.

@xXSkittl3zz Some people are obsessed with arguing and the need to be right I guess XD Well if you're going to fast, I wish you the best of luck! Keep in mind, whenever you start to feel weak, don't hesitate to grab something to eat! Enjoy your eid at the end of the month f2
I'm not hating on Muslims, it's just that some of their practices, are disgusting to me. Ex: Forcing Women to wear turbans/no deodarant, terrorism (eg. 9/11), and torturous Child Abuse+ Killing Pets.
Muslims haven't done any of those, the terrorism is the extremely proud/Ones fighting for peace (although what they do is very wrong) We don't abuse animals and are taught that all life is precious, and child abuse? Really? We are always taught that children get first priority in almost everything.

Where did you get all of this mis-info? Degrassi?

Honestly,
This is getting a bit over the limit. People need to understand that you can enforce a religion on someone. They have all the rights to change religion, and believe in something else. Another religion cant say whats right and wrong, as possibly their belief may be right or wrong in someone elses eye too. Its an endless conversion or debate about religion. 100% Certain that in a diverse world like ours, no religion will dominate. Theres ALWAYS going to be over hundreds or thousands of beliefs. Why are people wasting their breath and time on such a topic, they should know deep inside its childish. People can believer whatever they want, for all i care. No need of violence, debate, argument or anything.

Muslims are muslims. YES, twin towers. Why do people consider them muslims ? Osama Bin Laden thought he was helping god, but no. He made a fool of themselves, and boom goes the reputation of islam. They arent muslims by heart, and by brain..helll no. Muslims is about forgiveness, love and whatever else brings peace. In the Quran, there are suggestions and actual phrases of violence, but so what? The people who are over the top religious , i simply believe they make up their own rules and justifications which makes them a non-muslim. Its more Peace than violence, i assure you. I personally think the Media is all the blame, always informing us about the bad, rather than the good. Not only that, they target the terrorist that are muslim even though there are tons more than of terrorist from another race causing worse damage.

But anyways,

Im not trying to offend anyone, start an endless debate or anything. Simply stating my opinion, and possibly influencing a decision . Let people believe what they want, dont waste your breath or time.

I have co-workers at my work doing it.

I personally think the whole fasting is weird and is really unnecessary.

@Zulucker: Actually, they don't. They literally are so poor, they walk miles for some water which isn't really clean. Look at the world from different perspective and not just with your own two eyes Besides, even if they got money for education, is it proper enough to rival the education systems of other wealthier countries? Doubt so. Main thing being, everybody should get along and do something to help poor people. You don't religion for that c: ANYHOW, back to main topic please C:

@XxidrisxX: To be fair, the only time Islam was covered in school for me was during elementary school where they teach you about the world holidays, every year around 9/11 after it happened, and during my senior year when we read Kite Runner. The teachers were pretty biased until the last time we went over Islam. Ha, even the Kite Runner teacher told me that Ramadan was a thirty day fast with a big feast at the end.

@ShadeCombo: I'm gonna be totally honest, I've never seen people like that, if there are poor people they have enough for education.

@Zulucker: No not hobos F3 The actual poor people, who want to get to school, who want to get a fullfilling life but can't. Like the poor kids in Africa or some parts in Asian whereever else they are in need of that stuff.

@ShadeCombo: We can't exactly be expected to give money and stuff for hobos, it was their choice for not going to school and getting the proper education.
