What constitutes a thread to belong in the "fun" section? Recently my threads in chat keep getting moved to the fun section. The first one was a thread talking about music. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the chat section to be where people chat about things? The fun section in my understanding is a section where people post "forum games" like 'last poster wins' or 'SCENARIO' threads. Not threads about music. Yesterday I posted a thread about Katy Perry being on Sesame Street. It too was moved to fun section. Yet somehow, I've still seen dozens of "SCENARIO" threads stay in chat, even after reported, for pages and pages. So, what constitutes a thread belonging in the fun section and not in chat? Because
Rules for posting about the moderators or suspensions Recently, or in the past two years, there have been a lot of threads about the moderation team and how it supposedly isn't good. I have tried as well as other people to get this to stop. Unfortunately it won't stop so I've been for to lay down rules for posting about the moderators. Now of course you do not have to follow these rules. If you choose not to follow these rules, however, you cannot complain about your thread being locked and/or deleted with no resolution because you have broken one of the rules for posting about the moderators. Complaining about a suspension will not solve anything. Complaining about a suspension on the site board is not only the wrong approach to res
I'm at a loss as to why this thread isn't locked/deleted I'm talking about this one The discussion is whether 48/2(3+9) equals 2 or 288. Normally we have the usual "Does -2^4 = 16 or -16" which either dies or gets locked, but for some reason, this one stays open. Sure, it's a "new" equation, but what I don't get is why it hasn't been locked yet. The thread has been answered by numerous people, giving examples to how both 2 and 288 could be correct answers. I can see it getting locked after that, but it's still open. And to make matters worse, people have pointed out many times that this exact equation is a m
Why do Basilers care about memes so much? After the recent outbreak of the Skyrim meme I saw people complaining about it on the forums because it was banned. "It got banned of course". It raised a question; why do Basilers care so much about memes? I don't understand it. Honestly, it makes no sense. I admit, they're funny sometimes, but 95% of the time they're just spam.
Clarification on certain spam Meant to put it into the site section, sorry. Can a moderator move this, please? I often see posts in the forums, normally when quoting someone who asks a question, with the phrase "Google it" or something to that effect. For example; BasilerOne says "What does the acronym SPAM stand for?" BasilerTwo says
What does the acronym SPAM stand for?
"Go Google it and find out." Obviously the second post doesn't really help the thread, is it considered spam? I would think that it is, considering "Let me google that for you" links are considered spam here as well. Just looking for some clarification from a moderator so I can know if I should be rep
Hi. Im the fun section. Why do moderators forget about me Just kidding, I'm not the fun section, but if he had a voice he'd be saying that. I've recently seen a lot of threads in the chat section that belong in the fun section. Normally I see quite a few threads each day that belong in the fun section, but it's gotten worse. Threads like "Propose to a Basiler" or "The last movie you watch is your life story" or "The last food you ate is now banished from the world" (or something like that). While yes, I can see a thread lasting a half an hour and then being moved over to fun, it's gotten to where threads have existed for days without being moved, reaching dozens of pages. Now, you're thinking one of four things
Basilmarket Challenge: 7 Days of Cool Runnings And no, not that crappy movie in 1993. I seems like everyday someone is complaining about something on Basil not working right. It was my duty to just say "these things happen, MrB will fix it" for months. Now I'm beginning to think that it won't be fixed. Or if it is fixed, it comes after a bunch of useless upgrades that weren't needed in the first place. For instance, people can't even get into their finished auctions, but that didn't stop MrB from updating the permalink popup, or adding a vertical scroll when you're making a post (both of which were fine how they were). So now here's the challenge. I'm challenging Basilmarket to go Seven Days without any major screwups. It's
Does MrBasil not want us here anymore? To MrB: If you're reading this, please read this as a heart-to-heart from me to you, rather than an attack. I'm not meaning to attack you or the site. I just want you to hear some reasoning's as to why some of us get cranky with you sometimes. Take this as a plea that we like the site and want it to change for the better. Hopefully you'll understand. And I do love you MrB <3 To users: This is not a place to cry and complain. Let's keep this civil. You can agree or disagree and start discussions, just no arguing. Also, any comments to the effect of "Too long; didn't read" will surely be deleted. If you didn't read it, don't comment. To mods: As stated above, I don't wan
Can we stop making "OFFICIAL" topics on non-hype topics? In theory, "OFFICIAL" topics are a good idea. It's a place where all discussion on one topic can be held without cluttering up the forums with multiple topics. Unfortunately this doesn't work out well. Why? An "OFFICIAL" topic generates a lot of responses. The problem with this is that when the amount of responses hits a large number (dozens of pages) people no longer read every single post and just read the first and last page. This makes people either disrupt current topics with old topics in the thread or ignorance of topics that were already discussed. Another problem with the amount of responses is that posts get "lost". This makes people f
Has Basil ever taught you something? I'm just curious to see what people will say. But I know that most of them will be either that "The internet is childish" or "I don't like Authoritarian websites". Gogogo!
How many medals do you have? Finally got my 4 year medal. It was only like four months late since I'm 100% sure I joined in April of 06. Anyways, how many medals do you have?
I'm sick of the moderators keeping Basil so neat and tidy I mean come on; all they do is they come on Basil, delete posts that break rules, and let everyone else look at the clean boards. Then right when someone starts making a nice wonderful useless thread that I definitely love, mods delete it. You guys keep basil so clean and tidy and we are forced to sit here and wait until you're all asleep! It's blasphemy! Can't you guys just let one troll thread slip through the cracks? Turn a blind eye on blatant racism? You sit here doing your jobs and I'm joining the rest of Basil; complaining that you're doing what you're told! It's not fair!
Please visit our sponsors Ok. I get it. You like banner ads. Ads on threads. Ads on the Meebo bar. Ads that cover the edges of the page. Ads that count as a whole page making you "skip this ad". Why do we need dedicated sections for ads now? It's not to the point where you have to punish people for disabling ads; you're punishing everyone. Every day there's something else that makes me wonder why people still come here. Example
I am convinced Basilmarket is taking pictures of me So when I went to see who quoted me on Basil through BIM, the page had begun loading, and the ads hadn't loaded yet. All of a sudden my webcam lights go on. This only happens when the webcam is in use. It was on for a second, then turned off, almost as if it turned on to take a picture and then turned off. Basil then loaded the server error that happens all the time. MrB, please quit taking pictures of me.
Question about making a Basil ID & Players So I'm making someone else a Basil account (assuming the verification code works). Could this somehow get me in trouble for having multiple accounts or no? Also, this person doesn't play MapleStory, so could I lend him one of the characters on my MapleStory account that I don't use so that he can have an avatar? Or would this also be against the rules?
How to get the most out of the Basil Forums and Community I've decided to make this thread because I feel like those who are opposed to the community simply aren't going about the forums the way they should be. The community is what you make it. This guide is to show users the benefits of correctly using features of the site and ways to make the most out of the Basil experience. Reporting This is the first thing I'm going to cover since it's the most important aspect of ensuring a good community. In the top right corner of every post and thread will be a gray (!) button. This button will open up a new page/tab/window (depending on your browsers settings) in which you can report the current thread/post. This is used to notify a modera
