Maps that are great for most classes, but suck for DBs. Have you ever noticed that in those "Where to Train" guides there are a lot of recommended areas that just plain suck for the Dual Blade style of play? I know that, at least for me at lv 70+, most of the "recommended areas to train" were difficult to maneuver around because a bunch of small platforms/obstacles blocked my FATS, lowering my XP/hr. Has anybody else experienced this? The best examples I can give are Roids, thanks to all of the smaller platforms (you end up getting stuck on them with FA) and MP3 thanks to that damn hummer and the little stacks on the right side of the bottom part of the map. So, I guess what I'm going for here is, if you've dealt with th

This is a brag thread. Sorry, but I had to. ;) So I was hunting Wild Kargos because I know they drop Ascalon Kataras and I wanted one. I've been hunting them since around 6:30 PM EST and finally, at 12:48 AM EST, I saw one. I panicked a bit because my EQ inventory was full of crap for other classes (that I'm auctioning here on basil, check 'em out! /plug) so I had to drop a crappy Gold Wings to pick it up. When I got it, boy was I surprised. Weapon Attack: 44. I immediately used my 60% Katara Scroll on it from buying Tornado Spin's mastery book, and it succeeded. So now I'm rocking a 46 Watk +1 Luk Ascalon Katara. The average Heavenly Katara's Watk is only 43. /bragthread BTW, what happened to Basil there? Server crash or something?

Upper Stab's "Extra Damage" I don't think I'm doing it right. I've tried three different ways of taking advantage of US's 70% extra damage, and none of the three ways actually looked like they were doing extra damage. I tried Jumping US+US, I tried US+BS (and yes, it DID hit the monsters while they were in the air) and I most recently tried US+FA. All three combos have the second attack hitting an airborne monster, and none of the three combinations give me 70% extra damage on the second attack. My FA hits for ~10k and ~6k on its two hits, so if I'd be getting the extra 70% it'd be more like ~17k and ~10k. That's something that I would notice if I could get it to actually work consistently. I've even tried doing it without MI just

Oh WTD, how I shall miss thee. It seems like any time I couldn't figure out where to train (or the place I wanted to train was too full) from level 83-98, WTDs were always there. WTDs had my back. The WTD map might be the single best map for Dual Blade training in all of Maplestory. And tonight, I realized that, at least at level 99, WTDs are outclassed by an empty MP3 channel. Then again, good luck finding an empty MP3 channel. I bid thee farewell, my dear WTD map. You will be missed. That being said where should I train from 100-105 so I don't miss Captains? :P

How low can dex be now? I've been thinking about going super-low dex; like 35, max. I don't have a ton of funding but I was thinking, you get that robe at lv 30 (which is pretty much where you start being a dual blader in the first place; 20-30 goes by so quickly it's like it didn't even happen, and if you're going with the perfect build you're just hacking stuff with your basic attack) which you can scroll for dex (10x35k=350k, not that much) for +11 dex (the item comes with +1 dex +1 luk and 10 slots) right off the bat, and then you can equip the maple katara at lv 35, followed by a combo of maple wagner & maple duke katara at lv 43, then (if you have the funds and/or NX for gach) 1st unwelcome guest, at lv 64 and 77 you can get the m

My Chaos Plan: My Own Personal Thief World. I think I'm going to use the new Chaos server for 3 Thieves...I'll start with a Night Walker so I can get to 80 for the earrings and the +16 watk from Empress's Blessing. Then a SinDit since it's the most fun from 1-80. Then I'll make a Dual Blader which will basically become my main, since I'll be able to get the Holy Wing Earrings, Explorer's Cruelty Ring, and Bloody Mask all on the same character. I'm just not sure if I want to make the DB my lv 50 jumpstart character or keep it at Lv 1 and then get a Lv 50 Evan with the extra slot in the same world just so I can get those Onyx Glasses on my DB. I think I'll do that. Do you guys have any weird plans like this for the new world?

Figuring out Dagger vs Katara slashes on skills Obviously, when Fatal Blow says "8x 110%", you're thinking to yourself, "awesome, 8.8x my damage range". Right? Wrong. Fatal Blow is 8x 110%, yes, but each of the 8 hits uses only ONE of your two blades, and your displayed damage range is the combined damage range of the two blades together. So...can we actually break down each skill to determine the ACTUAL % damage they each inflict on monsters? I'm pretty sure Slash Storm is 1 dagger 1 katara blow for each monster, so basically when it says 230% x2, it is really more like just 230%. 1 dagger hit + 1 katara hit = your displayed damage range, so if your damage range is 1000-1500, your max SS damage range is just 2.3 * that.

Productive night? I think so. I've had kind of a weird night tonight. I have this Blood Dagger that started out @ 97 atk that I found during a 2x event from a Broken AF Android that I scrolled 4x with 60% scrolls and succeeded on 3/4 of them. So it was 103 atk, which was decent, sure, but at the same time I'm rocking a 107 atk Varkit that I passed 2 10% scrolls on, so it really isn't that great for me. I figured, "what the hell, it isn't doing me any good taking up an inventory space, and I don't want to sell it...20% scroll." It passed. So then I finished it off with 2 60% scrolls, 1 of which worked. If you're keeping up with the math, this formerly useless (to me, at least) Blood Dagger now has 112 watk and blows away my Varkit.

Man, I love being a Dual Blade. Best MS class ever imo. I'm only level 57, but I have so much fun using this class it's unbelievable. I've always liked Bandit style of play (jump hitting, backstabbing, etc) and the Dual Blade is just a massive improvement on that. It's great. I'm sure there aren't a ton of "I love this class" threads on this site, but I just can't help myself DBing is fun as hell. I think I might be a lifer. I've tried every class at least once (only exceptions are WH and BaM) and I haven't gotten more enjoyment out of any of them than DB. I'm even struggling right now but it's just so fun because there's so much variety in the attacks we use, between FB, SS, and TS, it's so awesome. I can't wait to get Bloody Sto

Let's get a compilation of what monsters drop which kataras I know HStreet has the right ones up, but I want to record which monsters seem to drop the kataras the most often. For example, I was training on Sparkers today, I must've been there for a solid hour. Not one Blazing Dragon Katara. On the other hand, I went to Guard Robot L and within 15 minutes they dropped 2, 1 average and 1 above average. Anybody else have some similar experiences to this? Champion: Guardian: Justice: Majestic: Ascalon: Wild Kargo [Below Average], Drumming Bunny [Below Average], Desert Rabbit F [Average] Heavenly: Blazing Dragon: Sparker [Below Average], Guard Robot L [High], Roids [Average], Iron Mutae [Low] Bloodsoaked: Meteor:

Problems with Tornado Spin I love the damage that Tornado Spin produces, but man I'm really struggling to get it to actually work consistently. I'm grinding at Wild Kargos trying to find my Ascalon Katara and the spawn is almost on the same level as CDs at Kerning Square. My problem, though, is it seems like every time I use ->-> to start moving, if I get hit by a Kargo before I hit the attack button, it cancels out the dash and I just use a regular attack instead of Tornado Spin. Anybody else have problems like this? Is this normal? If so, is there a way around it? Other than the obvious "don't get hit". Am I using TS wrong or something?
