The Circlejerks of Basilmarket To those of you that don't know, a circlejerk is, as quoted from Urban Dictionary: "A group discussion or activity between like-minded individuals that validates mutual biases or goals in a non-confrontational environment." (Basically there is one prevalent opinion that gets repeated and reaffirmed over and over again in a discussion.) Every website has these, the most infamous being Reddit, but I've noticed that the chat section of Basilmarket has a lot of these. So, Basilers, let's list some of the circlejerks that annoy you or that you see everyday on this website. I'll start with a few: -The Anti-America circlejerk, and how superior Canada is. -All cops are bad guys. -Anime is the best media know

How to keep an interesting texting conversation going? Yeah, so I have this long-distance friend I normally try to text just to stay in touch and chat to. But a recent problem I've come across is that I absolutely have no idea what to type other than the usual "Hey, how's your day been?" or other empty things. I normally don't have this problem when texting other people, but I just can't get engrossed in the conversation. I honestly do want to talk to her, but I'm at a complete loss. Have any of you ever come across this problem? I realize it sounds positively stupid. :3

Which smart phone should I get? I have an upgrade coming up in January and I was thinking about trying something new. (I've had my iPhone 3Gs for the longest time!) So what good Android based phones are there? I want something higher end. I heard that the Samsung Galaxy S3 was pretty good, but it seems like a giant brick! Are there any slim, smaller smart phones that are just as good as or better than the iPhone 5? There are so many options it's a bit overwhelming. o.o Any help or advice is appreciated!

Im confused about my faith Recently I've been thinking a lot about different religious beliefs and things, and I'm starting to question my faith. I'm Christian, and my family is mostly Christian- and although I am hardly religious I've always believed there's a God or at least some form of an afterlife. However, from being on the internet and actually dating an 'Anti-Theist', I've realized that a lot of people consider believing in a God childish or pathetic in the 21st century. I do believe in scientific theories such as the Big Bang and evolution, and that no matter what your belief is as long as you're a good person you'll go to some form of the afterlife, but many tell me that's cherry-picking and that doesn't make me a true Christian.

Recommend an android phone Yeah okay it's one of these threads. My iPhone 5 is crapping out battery-wise and I personally think the iPhone 6 is ugly af. I love the stability of apple products. I've owned quite a few android phones in the past, but the one that came closest to iPhone's stability and fluidness was the Galaxy s2 Skyrocket. (Basically what you would call the iPhone of the Galaxy S2's.) The rest crapped out on me literally less than a year after using them. I want a cheap, and smal-ish sized Android phone that won't crap out. I know the Moto G is probably the best option but I don't know if there are any alternatives or not. I don't want to necessarily "downgrade" from my iphone if you get what I'm saying. EDIT:

So I have to read A Separate Peace for my Honors class I'm normally an extremely open-minded person when it comes to literature, I love reading and I normally try to read different genres just to broaden my horizons, (more often than not, I end up enjoying the book even if I thought I wouldn't like it at all.) but 'A Separate Peace' has to be one of the most boring and uneventful books ever written. While the reviews I've read claim that it is masterful work of literature portraying the deep psychological issues of war and such, it just seems like a slow and overemotional story that drags on and on to me. I have never once been this bored and unengaged when reading a book. I've picked up on some of the undertones and symbolism, but it still

The girl Im dating is an atheist First of all, I'm extremely open-minded when it comes to religion in real life. I consider myself a Christian but I'm pretty accepting of everyone's beliefs, not matter what they are. Recently I started to date this girl that's an atheist. I told myself it wasn't a big deal and we've been pretty happy up until now. You see, she has very strong views on religion, especially Christians. She's said many times that Christians are ignorant people that completely reject science and other things like that in the past. I've lied and told her I'm agnostic (which I guess I am since I'm not entirely sure if there is a god or not, but I believe there most likely is one.), and I'm wondering if I should tell her the truth

Canadians- tell me what it is like in your everyday lives The other thread made curious as to what you guys do. So tell me.... What are your political worries? (NSA, immigration, etc...) Do you guys have the same style government we do? (Four year terms for presidency.) Does your milk come in bags? Is it warm enough to wear shorts? (I genuinely have no idea how cold it is up there. I cannot read Celsius.) Are there any conflicts between French-Canadians and other Canadians? Do people actually live up in those North territories I see on the map? Do you guys have a draft? What is your military like? Where do you go instead of Walmart? How hard is it to move to Canada, and is being a doctor profitable over there? These are all important questi
