Star Wars - what is your opinion? I recently sat down to watch the blu-ray version of the original trilogy, so I've got Star Wars on the mind. Everyone's got their own opinion about the franchise, so where do you stand?

When you rate something, what is an average score? It kinda bugs me that, especially in video game reviews, a lot of people see 7 or 8 out of 10 as indicating that a game is "average." Why do people reinforce that lopsided metric? Why isn't 5/10 considered average? Even worse is the use of decimals, because the narrow 8-10 range doesn't allow enough room to express how truly good some things are (be it a game, movie, music, whatever). People need to embrace the normal distribution.
Can you make a case for your favorite movie with 3 reasons? I've been watching a bunch of the Three Reasons videos Criterion does for some of the movies in its collection, and there are some pretty good ones: If you had to make a case for why we should watch your favorite movie (or any movie) in the same style, what reasons would you choose? Why?
Has a movie ever changed you? Have you ever been substantially affected by a movie? Something that goes beyond simply enjoying it. Perhaps something that you were able to connect with intimately due to a similar life experience, or maybe your personal philosophy shifted as a result of a well-told story. Any extraordinary movie experiences you'd be willing to share?

Family movies that just arent for kids Have you ever gone back to a movie you watched during your childhood and found it to be kind of overly dark or inappropriate? Sometimes I show movies to kids that I know or work with, and reliving some older movies has taken me by surprise. First off, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I guess the folks at Disney had to reach pretty far for a new adaptation, because this is how the original story goes: Esmeralda is executed by hanging, and Quasimodo lies with her corpse until he simply dies of starvation. So even after they fixed that part up, it still turned out to be a really dark movie about lust and alienation. Then there's Peter Pan, with its overtly racist depiction of American natives. I can accept th
What movies do you consider to be masterpieces? I feel like I could name a ton that come ever so close, but I'm steadfast about a couple: Mulholland Drive Stalker
