the heroes storylines are different
as the title say, the Heros storylines don't mix, when you paly mercedes athena is a child and escapes to vic... well this is after the black mage is sealed away
With aran she's grown up and it doesn't make any sence because that was before the black mage was sealed away

Also, I would like to know how they meet up. Did they come together and plan the attack? If so how did they meet? What did they think of each other? Did they all randomly meet on the battle field? If so, did they like each other? Were they happy to have their allie? They should explain that.
Not to mention the fact that she's part/all fairy. Fairy lifespans are ridiculously long. A "child" to an elf/fairy is until like their 30s at least.
Actually, Mercedes called her a child when she was out to meet the other heroes. I guess that it took some time till they fought the black mage.
Plus, in the aran introduction she doesn't look like a grown up, but much more like a teenager (which sometimes called by other ppl as child...).
