Do any of you know if this is a hack?

Hello everyone,

I've been wondering about this ever since I came back to the game (a few months ago, after a looong break of over a year), and I don't know where else to ask, so... Here I am.

Ever since I returned to the game, whenever I've gone to train to some open map (as opposed to a mini-dungeon), I've run into people (Luminous, usually, but also Kaisers and Angelic Busters) that appear floating in the portal that leads to the map I'm grinding. They last but a few seconds and then they disappear. They re-appear a while later, floating for a few seconds over the portal again and then disappearing again. They usually have names such as "gghdjjjj" or something equally unintelligible and, while they don't do anything in the map (other than float over the portal for a few seconds, as though they were lagging), they do come and go repeatedly. I've seen them several times over a few hours of grinding, and there's usually more than one.

I've tried to take screenshots of these people, but I'm usually fighting when they show up (I just happen to be near the portal) and they just appear and disappear right away, so I haven't been able to catch any of them "on camera", lol.

Do any of you know if this is some kind of hack? Could it be potentially dangerous to stay in a map where these people show up? I'm concerned because I'm a 100% legit player and I've read how so many people are getting banned for no reason (allegedly) and I'm wondering if, by training in a map where these people come and float, I could potentially be mistaken as training with them or taking advantage of whatever hack or thing they are doing. I don't know if this is actually some kind of hack, because I don't see any visible, noticeable changes in the map: the mobs behave normally, they spawn normally, no phantom drops appear out of the blue, no monsters die magically, none of the usual signs of someone hacking around you. But I don't know. I'm kind of out of the loop and just as I never seem to know what's the new problem with the FM and/or economy, I don't usually find out about these things until they are widely known. And I don't want to get banned for no reason, only because every single map I try to grind in usually has at least one of these floating people. >.<

Thank you, in advance, for any helpful information you may provide. And for your time!

Best regards.
Thank you for your kind words! Unfortunately, I'm in Windia and without much hope to go somewhere else, lol.

The problem is I'm in a guild, a guild my sister and I created back in 2005, when we were beginning our Maple lives. Back then, she played a lot more often and we made lots of friends and the guild was very active. But, over the years, all of our members have quit, my sister doesn't have the time to play all the time anymore and, so, I've ended up playing alone. I tried recruiting new people several times, only to find they were hackers or exploiters or glitchers or just plain old jerks, so... I stopped trying to recruit new friends. And, since the game's changed so much, I've ended up being unable to catch up and meet nice people willing to chat and train or do quests or PQs together.

In any case, I thank you for your kind words. I wish we played in the same game. I bet we could get along quite well.

Thank you.
It's alright, it's just rare to find people with the attitude you have to the game, if you ever need some help just PM me here and I'll help you out

If only you were in Bera, you seem like a nice person and I'd want to help you out more if you needed.
You should should join a nice guild and meet some people, the game is much more enjoyable then and I'm sure people will be there to help you.

Hack - yes.
Dangerous - depends on the GM
Annoying - most definately yes. They leave a nice pile of drops though.
Yeah they are hackers/botters, it's quite obvious.
Avoid being in a map with the ones that actually stay there and continue to bot because you are at risk, no point though anyway since they train at really deserted areas.
Relax though, I highly doubt you'll ever get banned as you don't really encounter them often and the risk is very very low.
Thank you. It might be obvious to you, and I had my suspicions, but I wanted to confirm them, since I don't know much about hacks and all the new stuff that keep popping up and putting legit people at risk.

My problem is I try to train at deserted areas too, only because I dread being KS'ed and that happens far too often in the popular maps. I'm always alone, because I don't have any in-game friends, so I can't ask for help if some overpowered silly person comes and tries to steal the map I'm grinding on. But, as you well say, the isolated maps are preferred by hackers, so I'm always trying to avoid them... Which makes it almost impossible to find maps where to grind. ¬¬

Anyways, thanks for confirming my suspicions. I'll continue to try and avoid them as much as possible.

If you see them floating over a portal, it means they're looking for a map, detect you in it, and change channels to the next map, hoping for it not to have someone in it.
I see. That's why they appear and disappear so quickly!

Thanks for your reply.
Shouldn't be a problem, but if they float like that and disappear most likely its a bot (though it should like kill everything on the map a few times before leaving).
It COULD (to the narrowest of degrees) be a threat to you getting banned but they tend to cc a lot. I'd just wait till they leave and then resume.
They're everywhere so, if you train in popular maps like aliens and jesters you're gonna find them a lot.

So far, I haven't seen any killing anything before they leave. They just float for a few seconds and then are gone. Of course, if I see a bot in a map or if some arrive at the map I was using, I leave as fast as I can. But these ghosts floating over the portals are disturbing and I wanted to confirm they were hackers, even though I do my best to avoid them.

Like I said above, I train in isolated areas to avoid being KS'ed (have had way too much of that in my Maple life...), but it's complicated because a lot of those areas are good for hackers too. I never go to popular spots like aliens or anything (I don't even know where aliens are, lol), but I keep running into these floating guys wherever I go, specially in Leafre, coolie zombies in El Nath and Herb Town. ¬¬

Anyway, thanks for confirming my suspicion.

I wish they released more mini-dungeons!

Thanks.

Hehe, I never pick up the drops of bots when I see them. I know those are obviously hacked. But the problem with these floating characters is that they just appear and disappear several times, even though they don't kill anything and don't do anything obviously hacker-like. I thought they were hackers of some kind cause they game is full of them and you can barely grind without running into at least a couple of them (and, usually, much more), but... I wanted to be sure. And, as you say, they are most annoying. It's hard to find a map without one of them floating from time to time... Although, if these are hackers looking for a channel and cc'ing when they sense someone fighting, that would explain why they come back after a while only to disappear again. I bet they go over every channel to try and find one open and, if they don't, they just keep going through every channel over and over.

Stupid hackers... I wish they'd all die!
