I dont get why the ice get the fire rock thing
Actually, it's because if an I/L tries to use a fire spell, or an F/P tries to use an ice spell, they'll die in horrible tortured agony. They give you a summon to get around it. I'm not making this up either; it's what they used to say in the quest to get Ifrit/Elquines.

I think its so I/L can have a fire element and F/P can have an ice element as well. It would be better than an ice summon which needs elemental reset when ur up against other ice monsters.

Its because when the summon attacks a monster, that monster becomes ice-weak..
