Laptop Question

So i have this laptop http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232122 and i wanna change my graphics card to a MSI GTX 970.

Wanted to know if it would work. Kinda new to upgrading laptops. Like if i can keep my current card and put in another aswell or will i only be able to keep one in.

Gonna open my laptop today to see if it has room but wanted to know if i can do it even if i have room. Also what cards fit into laptops?

Thanks in advance and sorry for sounding new at this.

@ChildOfAres The bottom line of most of the comments above is: Almost NO laptops can be upgraded beyond the capabilities they originally come with.

You might be able to add more RAM and change the hard drive to one with more storage, but those are the only two changes most laptops allow.
Everything else is built-into the system and can't be changed.

The answer is "No" to all scenarios.

You're proposing upgrading to a desktop GPU, one that actually weighs more than your laptop and has a higher TDP than everything in your laptop combined.

Beside that, nowhere in your laptop can you plug a new video card or GPU. The existing GTX 860M and all its associated components are soldered onto the laptop's mainboard rendering any GPU upgrade impossible.

With the way how things are these days, very few of them.

For those few laptops that have at least one MXM slot, it's not practical nor sensible to upgrade their cards because those cards are hard to find and overpriced.

You'll very quickly notice there is no room.

1) A GTX 970 is a desktop-oriented GPU. No matter how hard you try, you won't be able to fit it in a measly laptop.
2) I assume you're talking about the GTX 970M, but you're not going to be able to do swap it out; at least not as a beginner. Refer to the 1st post.

Just stick to the 860M. It's good enough for 1080p.

That looks like a mobile chip, if you can get the 970M chip 2gbs you can probably do it.

I'm not sure why you need to upgrade from a 2gb card to a 4gb card, but most of the time its unnecessary. Most laptops have their graphics card integrated into the processor so if youre looking to do that, its gonna be very costly. If youre lucky, then you have a mini graphics card to do an easy switch which just happens to cost even more. LOL Modding laptops isnt the best idea because a lot of parts are compromised to bring portability
