Should I Get Pokemon X or Y?

Besides occasional Maplestory & COD (0-4 hours per week), I haven't played video games in a pretty long time
And since I used to be a big Pokemon fan, I was wondering if I should be getting into a fun & lay-back game again
So should I?

Also other questions:
- Are all the Pokemon from every generation obtainable?
- Do I need a 3DS?
- Should I get a 3DS? (I don't have any generation DS)

Ive had a 3DS for about a good 2 years, and just recently switched to the XL. Seriously the best decision since it looks so much better on a bigger screen.
Wow, thanks a ton for all that information!
Also I'm a newbie about all these consoles
I searched Amazon for 2DS & I don't know what I should be looking at since all I see are results w/ "3DS", "DSi", or just "DS"
http://www.nintendo.com/3ds/2ds this is what the 2DS looks like, as a reference.
Edit: I agree with @Newspaper ; I would go for the XL for its size for beautiful gameplay and battery, if pricing is not that big of a problem. I'm using the first DS and I've noticed the screen is tiny after dealing with 5 inch smartphones and such.
2DS
Pros:
Longer battery life
Cheapest NEW
Comfortable to hold (according to reviewers)
Comes with case
Cons
Mono-audio (stereo w/ headphones)
Can't fit in pocket as easily
No 3D
No clamshell
Only available in Blue/Red

3DS
Pros:
3D
Clamshell design easily fits in pocket (great for streetpass)
More colors available
Lots of accessories available (Grips, battery packs, cases)
Cons:
Stylus slot is awkwardly placed on top next to cartridge slot
Smaller screen
DS games don't look as nice as it does on 3DS XL and older DS
Start/Select/Home "buttons" aren't actual buttons

3DS XL
Pros:
90% bigger screen (4.8 in)
Comfortable stylus placement on the right side
DS games look nice
The 3D slider has no annoying LED, clicks into place
Bigger battery, more battery life due to size
Start/Select/Home are real buttons
Cons:
Size might not fit in pockets
Lack of accessories
Less colors available (unless you get limited edition designs)
@cyberdudelol: As stated earlier, the 2DS CANNOT be folded, it is practically a flat piece of technology which means the screen is probably susceptible to scratches if you're not too careful, while the 3DS and other models CAN be folded, allowing you to put it in your pocket or bag or whatever, so that the screen will not scratch; the outside body will.
As for actual gameplay, it is truly up to you to decide if you're a fan of 3D; I personally am not, I don't see a point in it, and for some people, it causes headaches and dizziness after extensive playing. I personally would go for the 2DS because the folding part does not bother me (although it would take up more space on a shelf) and I hate 3D.
I'm not sure if this is true but I THINK you can turn off the 3D on the 3DS.

@Newspaper and @MageOfRain : Is there any benefits to having a 3DS vs. having a 2DS?
If the differences aren't major, I will go with the most cost-efficient one (2DS)

If you don't like 3D then get the 2DS (yeah, that exists). It's basically the same thing as any other DS except it renders 3DS games in 2D. This version cannot be folded to put in your pocket (although, who would, all are fat). It comes with a carrying case, I believe.
As for the game itself I personally would go for X, as most people choose Y for the exclusive legendary.
Expect running into practically all pokemon to have ever existed in all time in this version, since it is the newest one.
