Start up again playing maplestory after a break?

Hello!
I've been a pretty old maplestory player since around 2007-8. The last time I played actively, however, was somewhere around 2012 - early 2013 before I stopped altogether. I guess it just got repetitive and boring for my taste and I kind of just gradually quit. I've come on every once awhile since then, but was never really motivated to keep playing. I was kind of let down since the equipment I worked so hard to get was worth nothing every time I came back.

I was considering re-downloading the game and trying it out for again for fun.

My question here is what do you think about the current maplestory? Is it just the same as it used to be? Is it a bit more fun and active nowadays? I understand there are some new flashy classes available, but are all the classes mostly balanced? Are any of them overpowered? Would we be obligated to buy NX to keep up with the "godly" standard around the community?

Also, my second question is that if I called up my two friends (who also used to play this game with me awhile ago) to come play with me, would it be a fun experience? We used to have a blast playing this game and competing, and I'm wondering if we all created new accounts, would we be forced to buy more NX to keep up with the "godly" standard?
That's the thing about Maplestory is that it's so damn repetitive... From 165 to 205, FORTY LOOONG LEVELS, you are stuck at SDH...I used to play this other Nexon mmorpg, and that game was much much more enjoyable because 1) you grind at instance dungeons in higher levels, so it's got more variety compared to just griding on a flat platform; and 2) PvP was the bomb. The only reason i dont play that game right now is because hacks are going out of control, because nexon.
I just came back and it's been awesome! Nexon has toned down their greediness by quite a lot. I made a burning character, got it to 160 in three days, did a few quests got a luck drop and have around 140k-180k range on my WH with link skills.

There seem to be a lot of people on to me but I play in Scania, also there are a lot of big updates coming which will be nice to have!

if you have fun with it, play. if you don't have fun with it, then don't play. i think it's silly to either rob yourself of potential enjoyment just because someone said the game isn't all that great. that being said, they're not wrong and you're likely to grow bored with the game anyways.

I think the current state of maple isn't as bad for new players as it was a few months ago. With the addition of reward points, spell traces, star force and also adding in much more events that help you upgrade your items, it's not too bad to play without dumping money into the game; though be warned, you will have to commit a lot of time into the game to make up for it. But even so, if you're wise with what you spend your time in the game, you could achieve a decent range in maybe a month or two and be able to kill a lot of the lower-tier and mid-tier bosses easily. Though they're not as profitable as some of the more end game bosses, you'll find killing them on a daily basis very useful towards making your character stronger.

You don't need NX... you don't really need funding either. Just play for fun and enjoy it. If you aren't able to do that, then it's not your thing.

Actually, an event is coming up Wednesday where you can temporarily make a special character themed off of Pink Bean. It'll be ridiculous (in both power and how it plays), but the character is temporary as well (being taken away when the event is over). They'll give items to your account, however, so it's just a short bit of silliness. I think that'd be a good time for you and your friends to come back for a little fun. After that, see what you want to do after. If you had a good time playing, consider dusting off your old characters (or make some new ones) and keep playing. As for classes, you can't really go wrong per se...

Well the godly standard now is hitting cap damage and having max range. If you want to get to that fast then... you will have to spend real money.
I play in Scania so there are people here, but not as much as it used to be. I'm assuming a lot of the worlds are probably dead.
It gets boring later on, there is nothing really to do besides grind at the same spot and hunt the same bosses and repeat at end game.
For me, I create a new class, get it to 140-180 (depending how much I enjoy it and want to use the hyper), quit it and create a new class and repeat. Occupying myself until MS2 and tree of saviour is out of closed beta.
