No, the purpose is that 2 people somehow think that any of the thousands of other players actually care one bit about what 2 random people are doing in a game. In reality no one cares- they might as well be screaming at themselves throwing tantrums in the mirror.
I think I'd care more about what my neighbors cat's turds look like. That might somehow impact me one day. I don't know how- maybe at some point the cat swallows their wedding ring and then escapes and there is a $100,000 reward and I use my knowledge of the cat's turds to track it down.
I realize it's a highly unlikely scenario- but it's still 100X more plausible that anything two people yelling at each other over a pointless video game possibly being of the slightest interest or use to me.
