Glitched screen, turns on, then off

So I was using my laptop yesterday to run maple, and everything was going fine. Then suddenly the screen started flickering, everything went pink/green, and vertical/horizontal bars appeared on the screen, and it froze. I manually turned it off and powered it back on, and the BIOS screen was fine. However at the desktop, the display was once again messed-up. I turned it off manually again, and then tried powering it back on. The light came on and the fan started up, then after 2-3 seconds it just powered back off. I have no idea what the problem is. I've tried holding down the power button w/ power supply and battery removed, I've tried taking out alternate RAM chips, I've even tried putting in a battery pack from another laptop into that one. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.

Do you have access to an external monitor?
If so, attempt plugging your laptop to the said monitor with a VGA cable. This will let you know whether the problem is your screen or your GPU and/or motherboard.

Hmmm well there's also something I forgot. Several minutes before, I'd taken a look at the battery power remaining, and it'd said not plugged in even though it was. I jiggled the power cord a bit and then it went to "charging." Could it possibly be a combination of a bad video driver AND a broken/loose DC power jack?
