Can you recommend some games that are on sale at the moment?
It really depends on what kind of games you like and your budget.
You can use a credit card or a Steam Gift card that you can buy at stores like GameStop.
If you want a discount on Steam cards, You can get a $100 for $85 on Ebay right now.
You can 'share' games with your friends and family. http://store.steampowered.com/promotion/familysharing You can also buy games and gift them to other people. You can buy games and store them in your inventory to give to others or install on your own computer.

For overkill planning:

You can get a refund on games you don't like/can't run.
