Some people would recommend watching the 2002 version first before watching the 2006 adaptation.

@yennox: i know, but i dont really feel like signing up for one, and i just wanted to get maybe 1 or 2 other series to watch. thanks for the advice though.

EDIT: school rumble is a bit too comedic, but i'll be watching it when i feel like watching some comedic series

Advice: Go to an anime forum. You'll get much better recommendations there.
