(possibly) buying a new computer/laptop

so, recently my dell studio broke (probably), and since my other 2 computers suck (hp slimline and vaio ._.), i'm left with no computer usable for gaming (possibly). in the worst case, i'll have to get a new computer.
do you guys have any recommendations? thanks in advance for answers.
EDIT: right, forgot to mention the kinds of games.
i'm mostly thinking of playing games such as tf2, vindictus, or minecraft.

Each will be able to play those games you listed, and many more intensive modern day games on med-high if you want.
thanks for the help!
I see...That sucks. Well, without knowing specifically what is broken and how bad is it, I can't really really give you an advice on how to fix it. Just consider that Dell Studio can be fix.

Also, since I just been in a thread on it, do you have a brand that you preferred/against? I don't want to end up recommending something that you won't go with it no matter what I say. I'm going to look for something for you in a bit after I make something to eat.
i don't prefer any certain brand of computers, and there aren't any brands that i am against. i'll be satisfied as long as it can properly run the games i listed earlier.

thanks for taking the time to help me. i really appreciate it.

EDIT: just a small note, i messed up with the screen size. i would prefer a screen size of 13" to 15"
i can probably go to around $800-1000 if necessary.
i'm from the US.
i'll mostly be playing tf2/vindictus, and perhaps some LoL.
outside of gaming, i'll probably be running an internet browser, and occasionally ventrilo.

battery life doesn't matter to me that much, since i won't be using the laptop on the go. weight isn't an issue. i'd prefer the screen size to be somewhere between 15" to 18"

as for my dell studio, i'm actually not sure how it's broken. i only know that my dad slammed it on something, and doesn't seem to work anymore. i can't check the model either, since i actually don't have it with me.

EDIT: and yes, i'm willing to build a pc, though i would prefer buying a laptop. it's just that i don't have much space for another desktop, and a laptop is easier to carry around the house when necessary.

What's your budget?
Where are you from (US, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, etc)? This will determine what site you going to buy from and the price.
What games will you be playing? List them all if you can or the most intensive one. This can affect it a lot.
What applications you will be running outside of gaming?

Are factors like battery life, weight, screen size, etc. are important to you? If so, by how much?

Edit: Btw, when you say your Dell Studio is "probably" broken, what's wrong with it exactly? You may be able to fix it. Also, what's the exact model of it?
Oh, also, since it seem like you left an option for a desktop computer, are you willing to learn how to build a computer yourself?

An important question: What type of gaming? I probably can't recommend anything, but if someone who can sees your answer you'll get a recommendation, probably.
