Reinstalled the Launcher - now it only says download

Launcher was giving me trouble so I tried to reinstall it. Now it only has a button to re-download the whole game. I've tried everything I can think of (I made sure it was pointing at the right folder too) and I have gotten nowhere. There was one other person on the official forums with the same issue, but no replies. anyone know how to fix? I'm hoping it something simple and I didn't completely break things somehow... lol.

Nexon support told me to just go through with the download. I have the PLAY button again this morning... but I am unsure if it will work/keep working.

I still do have the gamelauncher so I can try that too. Funny that I had no trouble on my laptop though. Both are running windows 10. Though my desktop is considerably older.

Edit: Below is the post from the official forums that I keep referring to. I am only on the first re-download and not sure how things will play out.

[Having to keep re-downloading maplestory from new launcher

Every time I open the Nexon launcher and go to the Maplestory tab, the "PLAY" button is not there and in its place is the "DOWNLOAD" button. The first time this happened, I thought nothing of it and re-downloaded maplestory. I re opened the launcher and I was able to play normally. The next day I come back to see the same thing happened and I had to re download maplestory. I come back again today and I have to re download it for the third time and the download time takes to long for me to get my daily events in. Ive also tried using the GameLaunch within the files of ms, but that gives me an error, any suggestions? ]

Do you already have the game installed on your computer? If so, just use Gamelauncher
The Nexon Launcher told me I had to download the game even though it was already on my computer. I guess my Maplestory folder was somewhere that the Launcher could not find. Since then, I just go to the source file and open Maplestory manually with Gamelauncher

EDIT: newer versions might not have Gamelauncher (?)

I'll try going through the download since that won't take long. The one post i saw on the official forums said he did that and it worked until the next time he opened up the launcher, and it was back to the download button. Maybe it is screwy because the game is offline. it's almost 2 am here so if this doesn't work I will try again tomorrow when things are back online.... IF the game is back up by the time I wake up...

Thanks guys!

Also I have steam but I have almost literally never used it lol...

Actually if you do reinstall via the launcher everything will work smoothly. You're not reinstalling the game you are reinstalling the reboot patch! It will say play when your done I promise. I just went through it.

Try using the repair installation option underneath the option menu's of the game page. It looks like a small cog. I had to Re-DL the game and had the same issue too. It might work when the game is available as well. Either that or your files are corrupted(mine were corrupted kept saying I was hacking and D/Cing me) and you have to manually delete all your MS files, Re-DL it, then try to update via launcher. That's how I got mine to work. Hope this helps.
