Unfortunately that's not easy to tell without actually just trying it and seeing if it works.

Most games make you run a "Setup" or "Install" process to put the game files where you tell it to, and that process may, or may not make changes to the registry, but there's no real way of telling what it's doing. About the only real way to find out is to install the game and see if you can get it to work on a different computer.

Yes, you can install games on an external hard drive.
Most games let you tell them where to install to and you can just change the "drive letter" from C: to whatever letter your external hard drive is.

BUT- whether or not you can move the hard drive to another computer and play the game can be tricky.

When you install SOME games, it writes values into Windows registry, which is located on that computer's C: drive.
So if you move the external hard drive to a different computer the game won't run because those registry entries aren't on the other computer.

Games, which don't install anything in the Windows registry will run fine on a different computer when you move the hard drive.

Unfortunately, MapleStory is one of the games that won't run if it hasn't been installed on the computer you want to play it on.
