you can solo ht with a 50k range, it will just take a while. my estimate for you is 45mins as long as you can survive. its great exp as well since i never train, got from 140 to 180 on HT alone.

If you can survive through seduce, then yes, definitely.

What am I doing wrong?
I have a buffed range of 103k and I died like 5 seconds after I summoned Horntail. I was at the bottom trying to kill his tail and he killed me. I am fine if I bring my friend and he kills the tail first. I have 16k hp btw.

As many have said, you should be fine provided you know how to maneuver around HT whilst killing it. Your range is fine, I did it with the same range, but about 30% more boss than you about a year or more ago (way back when), and it went off without a hitch. There were a couple close calls, but I managed it. I believe in my screen-shots there's a picture of me standing outside afterwards, with a pirate hat on, lol.

You will be fine as long as you dont die on seduce. You would be safe with around 10k hp.

If you have a potion pot, you can kill him otherwise it's all based on luck for surviving him.

if you can survive, HT isn't that hard

I don't think you're going to be able to solo, but I'm not sure. You should try with other people first.
