My friend is wasting money on a 1500 desktop

Hi basil. So my friend is buying a gaming computer for guild wars 2, but it is $1500. I can run guild wars 2 on my laptop. I think he is wasting his money.

his configuration:
Processor 1 x Intel® Core™ i7 3820 Processor (4x 3.60GHz/10MB L3 Cache)-Intel Core i7 3820 w/ Intel Performance Tuning Protection
Processor Cooling 1 x Liquid CPU Cooling System [SOCKET-2011]-ARC Dual Silent High Performance Fan Upgrade (Push-Pull Airflow)
Memory 1 x 16 GB [4 GB X4] DDR3-1600 Memory Module-Corsair or Major Brand - FREE Upgrade to G.Skill Ripjaws
Video Card 1 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 - 2GB-Single Card
Video Card Brand 1 x Major Brand Powered by AMD or NVIDIA-
Primary Hard Drive 1 x 2 TB HARD DRIVE -- 64M Cache, 7200rpm, 6.0Gb/s-Single Drive
Optical Drive 1 x [12X Blu-Ray] LG BLU-RAY Reader, DVD±R/±RW Burner Combo Drive-Black
Speaker System 1 x iBUYPOWER 2.1 Channel Stereo Super Bass Subwoofer Speaker System-
Subtotal* $1509.00 (plus tax & shipping)
Okay, he is quite rich, and his parents are buying it for him for Christmas (which I can tell from the configuration, he's okay with computers, though)
But I still think it is a waste. Even in a family as wealthy as his, most parents tend to say "I got that super expensive computer, no you cant get this!" or some things similar. I think this machine would actually become a sense of resentment in his household. I understand his relationship with his parents, and well, I don't think they even like him gaming. Nope, no idea why they would go that high if they don't like him gaming.

So, regarding his configuration, how could you improve it so it is better and less money? Does $1500 allow for room for 2 graphics cards, or a Solid State Drive, while removing unneeded processing or RAM? I am not completely literate in building computers. And, through the specs, you can see he is buying from IBUYPOWER. Well, that doesn't seem like the best possible place to buy a computer from (overpricing).

Thanks for the help basil

I guess I can agree with you as far as $1500 dollars goes. But just to make a statement, if he were ruining his life or doing something seriously bad, I would not be happy for the choice he made even if he did it himself.
it's not a waste if you use it. my friend spent £3500 on his rig 2 years ago. that's like 5k+ dollars. he's played games pretty much every day since he's got it so i can't really see how it would be a waste.
This, Except the fact that by now a similar rig is a fraction of the cost he paid. The only thing that puts me off gaming computers.

OT: You should mind your own business.
not really helping if you're asking others for help.
theoretically, Using basil's input, I suggest a configuration, therefore helping. Although, apparently I'm in the wrong about the whole thread, so I'm not helping. So I guess you win. Have a nice day, stranger.

Same goes with all the people raging at others buying NX.
Am I really a bad person for caring about my friend? I think I could help him, is that so wrong?
