Okay I get what you mean. You want to signify unity through out the alliance through uniting the elements? I can't really do that since most people don't view art like that, so I think it would be easier for people to see something more simple like this.

Personally, I enjoy yours more than the other entry.
Yours at least has a clearer focus, and "story" to it. Clear point, and get's what you want to get across. A bit cluttered though.. Maybe tone it down a bit. Simplicity is sometimes better. Also, as mentioned before, you could change or add some alterations to the font to spice it up a bit more. Even alter the background to make it showcase your main point better.

The other entry, my eye's have trouble focusing on the heavily blurred background image and color alterations.
That and the non-crisp ill-matched font doesn't help at all. No real story, or point. If it wasn't for the Oblivion statue in the background, you wouldn't be able to really realize it was even Maple related :x Default Photoshop Maple Leaf Brush spazzes on the image doesn't exactly make it "jump out" as being Maple..
It's an Alliance, yet, the banner's empty.

There is actually a background, its just that I wanted to try stippling with white over the outer areas of the banner. Thanks for the opinion suggestion
