You don't need a ranged person for the pillars. Buccs have plenty of range. Additionally, the DR is manageable. The main reason you don't want to get close is so you don't get seduced. It's also not just one, it's both Munin and Hugin that can do this (the bird statues on the inside of Solomon and Rex).

Technically you can dragon strike and bucc blast from a distance but takes quite a bit of time. I've done it but with a higher range at the time (~215k ish clean). If it weren't for the bird statues being a bit too high for bucc blast, you most likely could. But as of now, I don't think you could solo within the time limit.
