Gpu Upgrades recommandations

Hello, its been a while since i did any upgrades to my computer. Currently i have a radeon 6870 1gb. I am planning to upgrade to either a Nvidia 760 or 770.
Can anyone tell me about how much % of a performance boost i would get if i upgraded to either one?

Current specs:
i5 2500k OC'ed to 3.9gghz
8gb ram
asus p8z77-v
700 Watt PSU from cooler master

I don't really want to wait for the new lines of GPU from AMD. From my experience, AMD's mid tier(Example: 6870 vs 560 ti) cards are slightly better than nvidia's, but run much hotter.

This is dependent on the games you play or want to play and your monitor's resolution.

It was extremely well known that last-gen's $200 cards (HD 6870 vs. vanilla GTX 560) had essentially the exact same power consumption and heat output.
How does the 770 compare to 7950/7970 in compute instead of games in real world scenarios like video encoding/file compression?
Video encoding and file compression do not make use of GPU compute resources.
I was torn between those two also, still haven't made up my mind, but I'm leaning toward 770 because I'll be playing FFXIV too. I'd rather not have to stress the GPU with OCing, even if only minor stress.

Haven't had to do any yet. Maybe I'll go test some.

@Alex9888 Thanks for all the information . I have decided to settle on a 760, and use the rest of my money to improve my sister's computer.
@JamesInNinja I don't really like OCing AMD gpus. For some reason they run hotter than nvidias. If i have better fans to pull the heat out, i would purchase it since Amd cards are usually cheaper and slightly better from my experience. But my case is a horrible budget case . (nzxt 210)

Hopefully AMD's new GPU thats comming up in the fall won't make me regret this purchase :9.

Man the 770 is a beast, I have one in my new rig. If you're on a budget get a 760, (I've done 3 760 builds in the last month for friends) and it is also a beast for the price. However if you can overclock your GPU and know what you're doing, you can push a 7950 (About 300 dollars) to the level of a 7970 within 2-3% and the 7870 is within 5% of the 770, so essentially you're getting a card between the 760, and 770 with an in the middle price. If you know how to OC a gpu.
