ToT 2nd boss quest

Ok, so im point in the ToT quest chain where i have just killed the 2nd boss, and need to unfreeze my ability to feal regret.
I bought the potion from the magic refiner, drank it, died, pressed ok, and then talked to the npc again. The speech bouble above his head has a clossed tome in it, but he tells me i didnt drink the potion each time i talk to him:S
I tried forfeiting the quest and buying the potion again, but to no use...

So please, can someone explain to me - CAREFULLY AND STEP BY STEP - what it is i need to do?
