Ngm is Acting Silly

So my mom recently had a new laptop purchased for one of her jobs (an Asus Aspire E), and since she hasn't taken it to work yet I decided to do some play-time on it. I can run games (such as MapleStory ) off an external hard drive or thumb drive, so I popped that in and started booting up MS. Got past the "welcome" pop-up, Ahnlab started up just fine, but then the Nexon Game Manager (or BlackCypher, whichever it is - in the Task Manager it shows up as "NEXON&quot shows up and... hangs. And hangs. And won't go away, like that annoying relative living in the guest room, holding my game hostage for reasons unknown.

It's not like I can't get in though; stopping the service from the 'Processes' tab seems to do the trick and the game boots up afterward, although stopping it from the 'Applications' tab in Task Manager gives me errors and a "you've been dropped from the log in page" error from MS. Everything boots fine on the main computer. I'm curious as to whether it's a quirk of the game/particular laptop, or if anyone knows of a way to make the game boot properly when that silliness happens.

Both lapper and desk tops are running W7 with the latest updates.

I asked her permission to use it, it's being used for this purpose at home exclusively (like I'd roll up to her workplace at midday and ask her to use the comp), and my mom isn't working for some major corporation that monitors their stuff 24/7 like greedy corp bastages do. I'm pretty darn sure we're both safe.

PS: It's not installed on the laptop. Reread my original post: I've been running it off an external HDD. I'm not stupid enough to leave the game on the system; I try my darnedest to leave no traces when I use her computer, or (especially) any public computers for that matter. I even go so far as to delete histories and such when I'm done running. I consider that healthy paranoia, and I would not install anything unless it had a purpose for the recipient.

Anyways, the problem seems to have gone away on its own, so that was odd.

Yes, because I've been at both ends of the spectrum and is frowned upon in the vast majority of professional spheres which could get your mom in trouble. Additionally, maintaining someone's computer is not an excuse to claim their possession for your own trivial personal use when you already have another system already setup for that. Considering how bad the Maplestory client has become, I'd especially not install it if it's nonessential.

The problem your are describing is well documented anyways requiring minimal search effort. You nuke the Black Cipher files and force it redownload itself or take fresh files provided by Nexon.

@Anthorix: Maybe, though this has only been happening on this laptop. Plus its connected thru the USB 3.0 (and the drive is 3.0 as well) so it theoretically should be faster.

Why, yes. Yes I am. Especially since I helped set it up, got the a/v installed, maintain both her laptops and the home computers, and asked permission to use it for personal use. Plus, y'know, not leaving a fingerprint by keeping everything on external drives and cloud storage. I'm so darn entitled.
Are you that entitled to ask such a question?
