Recommend me a good and cheap drawing tablet?

Uhm, so I've been looking at some tablets recently, trying to decide which one to buy. Unfortunately, this is my first time getting a drawing tablet, so I have no idea what to get. o.o
Anyone have some recommendations?

Haha I use line paper on top of my tablet to avoid scratches and slow the wear down of the nib

I'm still contemplating between bamboo and intuos. My beef with intuos is that I've heard intuos 4's tablet pen wears down really quickly. ;/
Get the intuossss. The bamboo pen will die faster than you can wear out 2 nibs from your intuos4. And they give you around 10 nibs. Honestly it's a great tablet! (5 nibs for 10 dollars isn't bad at all. It'll be months until you need another 5) All of wacom's newer line of tablets wear out the nibs.
I recommend an intuos4 Small. (any size larger really is for the advanced artists who need space)
Relatively cheap for around 200.
mostly all current and new art programs are compatible with the intuos4 for its tilt function.
Along with the fact that you get free software with the purchase aside from the common Photoshop elements.
Its as big as the bamboo with more functions and better for the resolution it can hold.
For example: making a line in Photoshop w. an Intuos isn't as RIGIDY as it is with a bamboo. Unless you like zooming in a lot.

THe new bamboos are able to go 'wireless' with an added accessory, thus the bulky look of it.
from what i know, theres also no more eraser top...
Wacom Bamboo Fun or something along those lines has been working rather well for me so far, I'm a novice and it has been quite easy to get the hang of this tablet and it wasn't expensive.
@workofart: do you know if those newer bamboos (capture/create/connect) are good? because they look so nice and are so much cheaper than the fun
No idea, I'm still using my Bamboo Fun but that's because I haven't broken it nor have I improved enough to use the intuos4.
Regardless, they discontinued Bamboo Fun/Pen and Touch, meaning these are better. Newer products are almost always better, and for a company like Wacom, they know their way through tablets.

Wacom Bamboo.
Here's how I see it:
Starting artist: Bamboo Connect
Frequent Artist: Bamboo Capture
Intermediate artist: Bamboo Create
Prefer drawing on paper: Inkling
Advanced artist: Intuos4

If you're planning on really dedicating yourself to learn, go with a Bamboo Create. Better to buy a Create now than buy a Connect, ditch it in a year, buy a Capture, ditch it in another year, and end up with a Create.

How serious are you about the commitment. If you're sure that you're gonna be serious about digital art and you're gonna be doing this for a while, then I recommend that you jump directly to one of the mid-line/high-line tablets.

Otherwise, Wacom Bamboo.

It's only 8 x 6 though.
I use a 4x5 and the size works just fine in my book. It takes up less space on my desk and is a bit more traveler-friendly.
