You can log on before, just be sure to be on during the hot minute. You have to accept the box before you log off though.

I have a somewhat vague recollection of leaving a character logged in on my computer one day because I had somewhere to go and was hoping to still get the hot time box. Pretty sure it worked so unless they changed the way 1 minute hot time boxes are distributed (cassandra suddenly appears and gives you a box) you should still be able to just leave your char logged in.

It's not that hard to understand.

You have to be on during 2:30pm, now the box could be given slightly later. What happen is what the minute arrive a pop up box appears and say "Congrats, you have gotten hot time box" or something.

It is best to log on earlier to avoid this issue.

Now you can leave your character afk as long as the character is on at that specific minute.

Hot times were like this before. In KMS, some of it is still like this. It is to prevent abusers.

First line of the paragraph from the above link: "Hot Times are rare (and fun!) events where you must ... be logged in during a specific time frame to receive a reward!"

I think all you have to do is be present at the time to have the box icon. Just make sure you don't disconnect.

you must be pretty new to maple cause all hot times used to be available for 1 minute in the past, not that long ago actually. probably around demon slayer's release

Doesn't really say much but I'm sure you can claim it through the Hot Time box icon on the left side of the screen later on, as long as you've been logged in within the 2:30-2:31pm time frame.
