HELP! Mouse-Highlight Problem!

Okay, I have a new problem now... here it is:

Hello.. I have a new problem now

Alright, so I was able to fix the mouse-highlight option... but apparently I am having a problem with clicking icons on my desktop. I'm not sure how to explain it but I took pictures for examples.

Normally on Vista/7 when you click on an icon on the desktop, it is highlighted blue. On my computer, for some reason everytime I click on an icon, it shows blue AND the dotted Xp-style line. The only way it disappears is when I double click on a program/icon from desktop, and minimize that program..then it appears to be gone but when I click on the desktop it re-appears on the last program I clicked.

I provided two pictures of what it looks like, the icon that has the dotted-outline is the Google Chrome icon.

I have also tried restarting but it had no effect. Thanks for your time and thanks for helping me!
PS: I have also tried right-clicking on the desktop and choosing "refresh" and the out-line disappears, but when I click back on the desktop it appears back on the icon that I last used.

----old problem below[solved]-----
Hello, I am having a problem with my highlight on Windows 7. Normally, when you highlight things in Windows Vista/7, the area that is highlighted is blue and transparent.

Recently, I logged on today and I noticed that when I highlight on the desktop, it is just like in Windows XP with the dotted lines, and I was wondering how to fix that...

I have called Dell support and they are unable to assist my alienware computer. I'd really like to fix this as soon as possible, as it is extremely annoying. I have also system restored my computer to an earlier date, however that did nothing and my problem was still there.

Here are my Operating System Specs:
Alienware m11x R2: Windows 7 Home Premium
HP Pavillion dv9700: Windows Vista Home Premium

Hello Yeah I chose the m11x and I think logging-off did the trick temporarily, but I wish 7 didn't have problems like this because that 'focus' thing keeps popping up randomly so I have to keep logging off and logging back on just to get rid of it...

I'm not sure if it would be safe to remove that registry... I wish I knew though ;o

Yup I got the m11x and it's perfect for everything! I even used it to fix my old HP laptop too! But I've been so busy with school that I haven't even played WoW yet... x) I'm actually trying more to get my friend to quit MS and play WoW right now. He's become far too addicted to MS, so I'm trying alleviate his addiction to something at least more mature.

The m11x screen size is not that bad at all actually! And It's also lighter than I expected! The i7 core is also a big + for me I even managed to bribe them to give me the anti-glare screen protector for free too x)... then I bought the logitech g700 especially for my baby And of course, the OEM sleeve to bring to school...

PS thank you for helping me decide on my laptop earlier I really appreciate it!

LOL oh yeah, and I brought it to school today for the second time..(still babying my lappy :o), and everyone was so surprised because not only did they see an alienware laptop.. but a "girl+AW" laptop.. lol and my friend said that I'm the only one in the school with an AW o.o almost everyone has a Mac at my school! That + HP! Very few Asus' and I guess I'm the only one with an AW

Apparently, it's a bug in Win7. Try seeing updating it to see if there's any fix for it. If there isn't, try this.

Edit: Oh, I thought your BasilID look familiar. I see that you went with the M11x. xD
Thanks Readers! Your solution worked! All I had to do was disable and re-enable as you've said I also noticed that it has always happened whenever I updated a certain driver using Uniblue Powersuite 2010, and restarting when it asked me to.

And thanks, you always help me on my Tech Support x)
No problem.

Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > It opens up System Properties. Go to the Advanced tab > On Performance, click on Settings > On Visual Effects tab, scroll down the list to ensure that "Show translucent selection rectangle is enabled" > If it isn't check it > Apply settings. If it was enabled, try disabling and then re-enabling it to see if it works.
