Attack speed of weapons matters or not?

So I was reading a mage thread and someone commented saying the speed of a weapon doesn't matter for a mage. I never heard of this so could someone explain and clear things up. Thanks

It apparently also matters for Kannas as well.

It does have a slight effect which can be seen via slower moves compare slow 8 staff vs elemental staff on explosion skill for f/p and it is noticeable (comparing # of explosions per min). It does slightly speed up your damage but the effect is so small in most cases that its not exactly worth mentioning(i think u gain like 2-3 or so extra para hits per 2 min)(sry im a f/p mage so couldnt test on i/l). If it didn't matter we wouldn't have boosters (most cases -2 weapon speed). In most cases slow 8 vs fast 4=after booster is really normal 6 vs faster 2. Not too much difference(unless getting 2-3 extra hits per 2 min matters a lot).

IIRC, attack speed of weapons ONLY matter for Battle Mages

EDIT: lol I didn't read your second sentence. Anyhow I'm not too sure on it but my guess would be since mages do not actually USE the weapons themselves to attack like Battle Mages do so with their FB, they are not affected by attack speed of the weapon. The AS of the weapon only accounts for the physical use of a skill I assume. Yours are magical and have pre-determined cast times that are altered by booster/SI. I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore so please don't go bashing on me
