Sorry im reposting this thread because i put it under the wrong category!
Ok so I haven't really sat down and played maplestory for about 5 months. Same with basil market. I went on yesterday to play. I patched the game fine. I press play and nothing happens. I try again. Multiple times. I use the game-launcher and the EXACT same thing happens. I get the loading symbol on my pointer but then nothing comes up. No hack-shield. No window. Nothing. Since it doesn't work with the game-launcher I'm assuming using any other browser wont help. (i am using chrome) Any suggestions? Please help quickly (I wanted to play as I watched the world cup game before i left for a fourth of July party )

You reeeaally should get an anti-virus as it can be the problem in your case... Most of the times it's the anti-virus program that blocks maple but since you don't have one, it might actually be a virus blocking it or automatically closing it.
Otherwise tried what the others said; IE, FF, GC. But, I repeat, get an anti-virus. Do a Full-System scan(not a Quick Scan) and add the game launcher into exceptions.
Alternatively you could try starting maple through Steam, as it has solved some errors before.

I don't have an antivirus lol removed it. And that's ridiculous. there's no way a simple error like this would make me have to wait hours to re-download the game again?

Reformatting a computer wipes it of everything you've installed on it. Don't do this to fix this, it won't help you.
Like other people said, create an exception for MapleStory in your antivirus incase it is being blocked, and you could also just try downloading and installing MapleStory again.

Internet Explorer does work for me too but, Firefox doesn't though.

Play button doesn't work for me on Chrome most of the time but it always works on Firefox
@MostUnique: try using just game launcher in the maple folder
Make sure your anti-virus isn't blocking it, because I had that problem and it was because of that. Sometimes (for me) it also just takes a while to actually start, but if it takes more than 5 minutes and it's not the antivirus, idk what to tell you.
