I do agree with both of ya that playing what you like is enjoyable and you will have way more fun, HOWEVER instead of giving the vague statement of play what you like, you can probably just give insight on what you enjoy in the class and maybe the guy will decide based on what you told him. Its more helpful to be like, oh i think Zero, cause it bosses well or F/P cause of the mobbing and so and so, but "Play what you like" without any information just seems selfish ignorant and dumb if ur not gonna provide info on anything there's no reason to post a comment, Some people like myself had to find my fun class based on what people have told me and i played every maple class so yea, Maybe its just me who feels this way but i think if you're trying to help someone it should at least be something u know helpful

@aeynx the vast majority of the time we (the commentors) are just as likely to recommend a class that OP won't like as OP is to randomly choose a class he won't like. Either way, he's gonna have to try multiple classes to find his forte, or he'll get that lucky ~1/40 chance that he finds his favorite class the first time.

@fradddd:
not necessarily, not everyone has time to experiment with 40~ classes. and you can't even just 'try' them, you'd realistically need to get each character to 120~ for a fair assessment. i remember leveling a kaiser and absolutely hated it from 1st to 3rd job but once i got wing beat and gigas wave, i almost decided to fund another main. simply dismissing OP by telling him to play what he likes doesn't help him at all. it'd be nice if he gave some preferences, but i can understand his position being overwhelmed by the selection, especially if he's new or been away for a long time. its akin to eating at a new restaurant for the first time, asking the waiter what's popular on the menu or if he has any personal recommendations, then being told to just 'order what you like'. you've seen the menu, made some elementary decisions based on the ingredients, but you wouldn't mind another opinion from someone who's been here before because you only have so much time and money.

so all we can do is narrow down the 'menu' if you list your preferences. some common classes i like to give to newcomers or people who've been away for a long time are kanna/demon avenger/demon slayer/xenon/zero/luminous/mercedes. even if you end up hating the class, they provide useful a link skill to transfer over to another characters. good luck

@evenings because it's true...you should just play what you like. There is never gonna be a definite answer to this question, because part of the genius of Maple is that pretty much all the classes feel different to play. And different people have different preferences, just like with anything.

It depends on what class you like the most, that is the best class. For me I started in 2005 and hopped around from a Cleric, Bandit, and Warrior. Its not that I didn't like them, I just didn't enjoy playing them. Then I decided to start a beginner and I have loved it ever since.

@evenings: Playing what you like is important. I dislike playing Shades, Kaisers, Wild Hunters, Evans, and the list goes on. That's why I don't cap on those characters - they're not able to make me want to fund them. You'll understand if you actually fund a character. As for the constantly buffing up part, there's more classes than just Shade that don't have to buff up (excluding maybe decent skills) if they get all 3 pet auto buff skills.

No class is "the best" if you're unfunded. You'll remain weak no matter what class you pick if you don't fund them even a bit. The amount of funding differs between each class but if you don't fund them, you'll be weak and most likely will not enjoy playing that class.

i will never understand the "play what you like" warriors in basil like if ur not gonna say anything helpful why bother replying?

ALSO for the post i guess it depends on what ur into like mobbing mobility heavy dmg that sorta thing, i would say Shades are pretty decent for everything and you only get like 1 buff skill so u dont have to constantly buff up

Shades are pretty well rounded.
Good at mobbing and bossing. Also have very useful utility skills. One buff wonder!

The best class is the one you find the most fun. If you can maintain that fun factor through the slow climb to funding then you're gucci.

In my opinion, there is no best class in Maplestory.

Some good ones you can check out are:

Wild Hunter - Statistically the best bossing class in the game, and my personal favorite to play for entertainment.
Bow Master - One of the best bossing classes in the game. My current main. This class needs heavy funding, though.
Xenon - Decent at mobbing, pretty good at bossing.
Kaiser - Amazing bossing, (don't exactly remember the skill in mobbing), very entertaining in my opinion.
Luminous - Best mobbing class in the game, quick level ups and experience early on.
Phantom - I have no clue what everyone sees in this class, but everyone says it's good. Maybe check it out.
