Gohan could have become a super saiyan against frieza
When Frieza "killed" (impaled then healed by Dende) Krillin, it triggered for Gohan to rage, but he didn't let it take control. Gohan could have become a super saiyan and beat Frieza at his 2nd, but not in his final form. Comparing Gohan's rage to future Trunks', Bardock's, and Goku's rage, this was enough to go super saiyan, but then again, Kid Goku didn't become a super saiyan when Krillin first died. But yeah, Gohan could have definitely become a super saiyan when fighting Frieza

Pretty sure there's a base form power threshold he can't surpass in order to achieve SSJ.
It took him a while to achieve super saiyan when he was in the hyperbolic time chamber. The rage put him past Frieza third form but I don't think he was anywhere near super saiyan.
i rather not see gohan turn that young considering goku wouldn't have even done it yet, kinda got disappointed when goten and trunks learned it so easily
