Question for people who cube

Before I begin I must mention that I am not asking people for their reasoning behind spending their money, but rather I am trying to gain some insight onto the subject since I don't quite understand it.

My question is simple, however can be taken into numerous different subtopics about spending money on the game. I hear a lot of people saying that they spend well over 100k all the way up to 300k NX on cubing in order to get the perfect stats on their weapon. That is well over $100 on cubes to get the perfect, or whatever the 'cuber' finds perfect, equip. Besides the obvious reason of having better stats/range, am I missing something? Are these weapons/armors worth a lot more in real life money than the NX spent cubing the item? Are you guys, or ladies, that are doing this only doing this for personal gains, i.e. raising your own damage? It doesn't bother me what-so-ever that there are people spending their hard earned money on a game because that is their choice and I am not asking you to justify spending this money. I would just like to know what exactly I am missing when it comes to cubing an item with what some people, myself included, would find to be a lot of real world money.

I just randomly thought of this when I thought of maybe cubing some of my equips, but then I realized that in order to get someone decent stats, I would need to throw in wayyy more money than I want to. Granted, some people probably get lucky with spending only minimal amounts of money and getting good stats.

Please enlighten me.

Ummmm, thanks?
@Ninjastorm33: tbh I dont really know. I prolly just have too much spare cash so I throw it at things that make me happy and maple just happens to be one of them. Maybe if I was struggling id be way more conservative. I dont value money all that much.. it comes and goes.

Like the other day I went shopping with my gf and I came home 700 bucks broker. She loves to dress me up so she picked out stuff for me too and im just like.. eh.. but at the end of the day im just sitting there staring at my new clothes like.. did I really need to buy this stuff? ..couldnt thrown that money at maple and added a couple hundred thousand to my range tbh.. but its w.e. Guess what im tryna say is money comes.. money goes.
That is the truth, money it comes and then goes. Hey man, if it makes you happy, spend it. I know I am like that too, just for other things that aren't related to Maple. Good luck with the girlfriend, and your newly added clothing line!
Cubing is essentially gambling.
Many people enjoy the thrill of gambling.
Knowing they have a chance of hitting jackpot or leaving disappointed.
There are also perfectionists in Maplestory that aspire to try to be the top of the top.

There are instances where this is true. Lemme give you a break down of an item i own, which i believed i profited in real life money.
I bought an Lightning God ring on release for 8b. ( Since we are dealign with Real life money, I believe that was at the time was $100). I dedicated a good $100-$150 to cubing it.
Knowing the risk, i took it.
ultimately resulting in what i have today. a 30% dex LGR. Which im sure is well worth more than $250.
I honestly never even thought of the gambling factor. That makes perfect sense. I know that most of us chase that rush of getting something good, and I can see someone trying to find that feeling of getting a perfect equip. Thanks for that. As far as the real world money, I figured that someone people make money and some people lose money. I guess it's all that rush and chance that you were talking about. Thanks for the answer!
The answer's simple. Lol we love maple.. that's all. Because we enjoy the game we are willing to spend money to further enhance our gameplay.

The end.
Ok, that is valid, a little bland, but valid. I'm not bashing you for doing so, I just wanted some more insight about why you like to enhance your gameplay. Like do you enjoy raising your damage/bossing/end game content? Believe me, it doesn't effect me at all, so I am not trying to say that people who do so are dumb or anything like that.
Maple might be unhealthy but so are so many other things in life. If I didn't party with my friends, I'd have a 10m range. Money just goes bro, it doesn't matter if it's on maple or not. People will spend it on their entertainment one way or the other.
Very true man, I kind of thought of this, but didn't really think too hard about it. I guess people just have different interests about things and are willing to spend their money on different things. If they like doing something, do it. Makes sense, thanks!
Well, some people like putting money towards their hobby/addiction but mostly once you get to a point,
you can play the game and be fairly self sufficient. Granted most of the money i spent on this game went
towards nx/pets/owl(yeah...) back in 2008~2010 and it is a gamble but it is a lot faster than crafting your own cubes like
I do and worst comes to worst you can always trade your equips for your own stat. Tbh not many people
have 3L stat which is perfect, even some of my gear only have 1 line stat so it is up to you when it comes
to cubing amount. A good example is my weapon/2ndary, my 2ndary took 5 bpot from epic to go leg 21% att
while my weapon took roughly 400k nx. At the current nx rate it isn't even worth a fraction of that while my 2ndary
is worth a few times that so. Though to answer your question properly it is just a lot faster to use your own money
for those who actually have the money for it..
The time factor was one that I definitely didn't think of previously. I guess some people just enjoy to have things done quickly and efficiently, and would rather do it themselves. I'm sure some people would rather buy mesos and then buy the already cubed item. Then on the other hand there are probably people who would rather buy the cubes and then cube their item for the thrill and the speed (don't have to find the perfect item). Thanks!
Same reason why people gamble etc, they get a rush of dopamine and become addicted to it. Also everyone has different mentalities. Their standards are different from yours. Their financial situations also. In my opinion putting a couple hundred dollars into a game you enjoy isn't a waste at all. I'd rather do that than spend 10x the amount of time leveling because I can't kill anything efficiently or being unable to participate in any endgame content. "Perfect" gear is worth tens to hundreds of dollars on the black market so in a sense you might be able to get your money back.
The gambling thing is something I didn't think of, like i said before. It really does make perfect sense. Different interests + Thrill of gambling helps me understand a bit more. Thank you!
