External hard drive jams

Hey Basilers,

I'm not looking for a fix, I'd just like to know if my hard drive can still be saved.
I have a 2 TB External hard drive by Freecom. I had to have the casing replaced about 3 weeks ago because the USB jack had come off. It came back with a solid case with USB 2.0 (nice, very robust) and didn't have any problems whatsoever.
Today the thing was defragmenting just fine when I left home for Karate, but when I got home it wasn't running any more. When unplugged it and plugged it back in it started running normally, until it said "crk crrrick" after about 5 seconds and slowly stopped. It happens every time I try to turn it on. It doesn't make any additional noise, just those two clicks. It's like it jams somewhere and then turns itself off.

I'm taking the hard drive to a repairsman the day after tomorrow, but until then I'd like to know if he'll be able to repair it. I can't really afford a new one at present and there are some back-ups and videos on it I'd rather not lose.
Googling didn't help because I ended up with discussions about software issues and something called Jam Packs. -_-

Anybody got a clue?

Well, I really don't dare to turn it on again, I'm afraid something will scratch the surface of the disc. That'd be problematic.
On that note I still have nightmares of cracked long play records: "and when the saints go marching in *crack* marching in *crack* marching in *crack* marching in *crack* marching in" Those saints never stopped marching. >.<

Nope, probably best to wait until you take it in tomorrow.
Invest in a SSD next time!
