I don't know for sure because I haven't tried it out, but I've seen other people say to try to remove and equip your pet a couple times until it works.

Another question: Since I had an item pouch before the update, I have the skill right now, but does the skil work on any pet now? Since I had it from the beginning?

1. Press E for Equips.
2. Go to the "Pet" tab
3. Under all the pet/skill square boxes, there is an option for pet looting skill.
4. Uncheck that box and your pet will spot looting.

there you go. remember to turn it back on when u want the pet to loot.

Click to the pet window. Then check the item pouch skill.
