What happened to this game?

This isn't a rant. I just want to express my disappointment. I quit logging on almost a year ago because I got involved with crazy Maple drama queens. I stopped actually running through the content a year before that. I logged on the first time in a while this week and jesus... what happened? I was told this lag has lasted for months? The population looks dead, and there are still people going off about how "people have been saying Maplestory has been dying for years." Are they in denial? Even the Nexon forums are dead. I almost forgot to mention how bad the economy is because of hackers.

Wow. I am so sad right now. My childhood is dying. Please Nexon. I actually WANT this game to live. Get it together.

its player base is much lower than last years, the lag from Scania has been going on since Febuary which makes it impossible to lvl up any character at high lvls. The events we had for May was very lacking that no one really cared for it or bother to do it. Lots of its player base who still play are heavy funded or just log in and afk due to boredum or killed every boss they can in less than 30 min and not much content is worth doing other than Elite hunting? The games content is not new player friendly realizing the funds you need to establish ones self in the game becomes pay2win very quick. Party Training is now a chore unless you had people from years ago still with you, Bossing same thing, no point going into it as a party for its rewards or no point killing certain bosses like the failed Czak which drops a Zhelmet thats lacking. You can buy the whole Root Abyss set at a meer 100mil? compaired to how the price was. Maplestory has not been doing great since the addition of potential stat item and the nerf they done to most training grounds and the addition of Crazy High End Bosses, life counts ,insta death moveset from bosses and lacking rewards. So yes it is dying

Edit: Nexon did this to its own player base also why spend nx if theres better games out there, Overwatch just came out

I feel you D: I just returned after a 5 year break, which is nearly impossible to catch up to. I guess it's better to have 20 nice friends than 1000 spammers in ch1 Hene, but it did have a charm to it.
I do feel like this game is much more focused on individuals now. I just trained an Angelic Buster to lv100 in 3 days and haven't seen or talked to a single person. By our standards-from-5-years-ago it is definitely dead lol. Try adjusting and make the best out of it Having a lot of fun atm.

Just the fact that they keep merging worlds is enough for me to conclude that Trump will win.

I've recently came back to Maple, and the lag is insanely bad in Scania. And is the OP's statement about the lag being like this for over a month true? If so, I have no hope for this game.

@suson: I don't know if people are too shy...maybe just less friendly and willing to meet new people. Tell me if I'm wrong I guess? I play in Scania as well. My guild is still holding #1 in flag race. It actually shocks me that they're still so dedicated to it. We've been #1 for over a year.

What does "dead" mean to you? Is it dead when Nexon finally shuts off the servers?

Game is alive, evident of my guild and alliance in Scania. You can compare it from now to another time period back then but that's obviously going to lead to the conclusion of "Less people than before thus, it's dead." But no, it's not. The social aspect of this game is pretty much crippled, people are too shy to make friends and before they can make some new friends, more than likely, they'll get bored and quit. This game is only as fun as the people you meet and help.
