"windows detected a hard disk problem."

I got this warning today, saying i need to back up my files and contact an administrator.
I googled it and everything says to just replace the HDD, but can it be something in it? Ive scanned for viruses and malware and got nothing so I don't know what else to do.

Also I know this is in chat. I would just like an answer sometime this week.

Well by default for win 7 if gives you message that you should backup your data. Idk what OS you have but this is all I know.

Then it would make more sense to post this in an actual tech forum then, as you are going to be insured that the majority of the people you are talking to has a technical background and not where they are the minority of a section. Chances are you are going to get a reply on the same day on either of the section. An actual answer is another story (thankfully, the spams was deleted when this got moved).

Download HDDscan, extract the folder onto your desktop or something, and run the HDDscan program. Select your HDD and click on "S.M.A.R.T". That will give you an report of what have been going on on your HDD.

HDTune will also give that report, as well as it allows you to run an error scan each sector of your HDD. I do recommend backing up your data if you haven't already though.

Well thing is its still working with nothing but the warning saying its wrong. Im not afraid to go out and buy a new one its just a pain to reinstall windows and all the drivers, would like to avoid it if i can. Hoping for it being wrong on the inside, not on the physical side. and it worked as far as i know, I did those earlier this morning.

...just replace the HDD? I don't know what other solution you're looking for. If you can't do it yourself bring your computer to a place where they can.
