Does making a Ua create a new char slot?

I started afresh on a new world because none of my friends played on my old world anymore. What really sucks is the 3 character slot default, and I just missed the character slot attendance event when I restarted. I was just wondering, if I were to do the UA quest on my TB, would it force a new character slot open for me? Or would it make me delete a character first? Btw I don't want the UA, I just want the character slot :X Thanks for replying in advance!
