Building a new computer

Well, yeah the title says it all.

Budget: $900-1200
I live Toronto and I plan on playing any games, BF3, D3 and Guild Wars 2. But mostly editing videos or drawing on a tablet. And yeah also I'm gonna need a new mouse, keyboards and monitors ( I already have a monitor but I want to go dual screen).
Thanks.
@qwan456: sorry was typing on my ipad. I meant to say about the odd if he didnt really need one he could buy a cheap temp one to install the os.
Oh ok. For future references, when recommending a build, unless they state otherwise, you should always specs out a complete build. If you have an opinion like "just get a cheap DVD drive, since you most likely never going to used it again other than installing your OS" or whatever, put in a DVD burner and post your opinion next to it. This way the person you are helping with doesn't end up having order a one later on or something. Due note, this actually happen to someone I had helped. I forgot to add in an ODD and he couldn't install his OS when he build it...
dont want to start a war here lol. but 560>7850
How so? The 7850 performs better, draw much less power, run cooler, can overclock better, etc. The only thing that you probably can say it isn't better is the higher price, but that's quite obvious if you gaining something back. xD
well im in the us so cant really see canadian sites. but if u look it up u should be able to find a cheap copy. the sale i saw before is gone now. prices r like $80 USD, but if he wanted to he could get a copy of windows 97 for $5? then get this http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Anytime-Upgrade-Starter/dp/tags-on-product/B002K7C1HG
I'm from the US too. xD I'm pretty sure getting Win98 and upgrading to Win7 wouldn't work with that disc, as it an upgrade for the Windows 7 Starter edition to Home Premium.
Thanks for the relist forgot to make it public.

If he was in Canada it would cost him 1,058.93 loonies, or $1037.17 usd. So he would only end up paying $6 more in Canada.
As for shipping costs I'm not sure.
You have to take note that his budget $900-$1200 is CAD, so they will be a little more limited (not much though). Plus, tax (around $46.84 for the postal code I had used) and shipping (up to $20 and not including the $10-$20 shipping on the case). There's a few instances where I'd configure something, where I only need to spend $5 on shipping or even get free shipping (switching the mobo to this and price matching to this. Or since stores like NCIX and CanadaComputers has actual stores you can go into, you don't need to spend on shipping at all.

Since Newegg.ca does have some stuff that is priced lower, NCIX is willing to match that price. My main point is that if you are going to configure something, it is a good idea consider all of the option that may affect the cost, so you don't have to waste time in recommending something that will in the end be over his budget, especially considering we still have yet to add in a gaming mouse/keyboard and monitors, which I just realize my recommendations also nearing his $1200 after mentioning all of this... >>
I didn't factor in an odd, because lets be honest no one uses them anymore. If you really need one get one, but all software can be bothy online. To install his is he can get a junky $2 one with a temp connection. I didn't put in a case as that's his choice.
I'm assuming we are being legal here, unless he got all of his disc backup via ISO on an external drive, waste his time getting the ISO on the internet when he already got the disc, or whatever, it's a good idea to have an ODD to install your games and future games. An ODD can be helpful if you are the type of person who back up their DVD/BR collection (like myself), or have a lot of things to burn. Not to mentioned the fact that the TS will need an ODD to install his OS.

You don't know what he will be needing it for, so you NEED to include it in, as you don't know they might need it in the end. It's not a big of a deal considering how it's only $20.
Yes the v2 is actually better, thanks. It's just uses more power. It's nice tho because it's quiet. If it was me I would go for the v2, since my pc has 8fans(might be 9).
It actually better in more ways than just efficiency and price. It's better in voltage regulation and electrical ripples/noise suppression. So yes, I will definitely get the v2 version.
Edit: new build put it on Canadian site. https://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=15230954
Relink again: http://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=15230954

I would spend a bit more on this. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150608
Excluded windows 7 bc u can get for $50, so like 60loonies if u find the right place. Add a case which I would personally get a really nice one. But you can get a decent one for $50-$100 or like 60-120ish loonies. Shipping check just do add to cart and type in zip. For me it was free <3
"If you find the right place." Tell the TS how he would go about doing that.
Btw, if you used your US postal code, it will come back as free-shipping and no tax.
I sent him this one. critique if u want.

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?BundleExist=N&ID=15230954&ChangeQty=0

if he had more money i would recommend an ssd. This is without a mouse and keyboard, which i recommend razer. To cut down u can get a cheaper os and a cheaper i5. case is his choice. whatever suits him.
Relinked it for you, as it needs to be a public wishlist in order for me to see it: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=15230954

Newegg.com is an US site and will not deliver to Canada. He will need to go to Newegg.ca to buy his components which may cost a little more than what we see here. Taking in account my point regarding shipping, that already may go over his budget after he factored in the ODD that you didn't put in ($20), case ($40-$100), and the other peripherals he is going to buy.

As for your components, the TX650 you have picked is base on the older SeaSonic S12 platform. The TX 650v2 would be better and cheaper. Yes, if he doesn't need the extra features on Win7 Pro, he could save some money by getting the Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Make your own build in newegg. I would make one for u if u pm me.
The reason why I don't typically suggest going to Newegg.ca for Canadians is due to the higher international shipping cost require for like 5-6 of the components, as they are being shipped from a warehouse in the US. If you go to NCIX.com, not only the shipping will be cheaper, you are allow to price match with other their other competitors.

If you have a build in mind, post it here, so the TS could get other output on it.

Well, this what I had suggested in another thread:

i5-3450
MSI Z77A-G43
XFX Radeon HD 6870
XFX Core Edition 450w
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline Frostbyte 8GB
ASUS DRW-24B1ST 24X SATA DVD Writer
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
Antec One
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

You aren't limit to what I suggested btw. Also, you are allow to price match with other online retailers such as Newegg.ca, Canadacomputers.com, DirectCanada.com, etc.

Depending on how much the peripherals takes up, you could adjust that build accordingly, such as getting an i5-2500k/3570k and/or HD7850.

@DarkFairy18: But the part after that should also matter because most people don't buy a mouse, keyboard, and monitors for their tablet. And also, most people don't go for the extremely expensive tablets, I've never actually seen one before except online. And like I said before, there's a problem when you have such a small budget. There's no way his budget can fit something with 4GB VRAM, like the GTX 690, which is $1000 alone.

You don't need i7 for gaming, i5 should be fine, about 150 on microcenter. Graphics are up to you, but prices range. I would run an ssd and a hardrive, so you use ssd for games (faster speeds/ load time etc) around 128-500 gb, and a 500gb hdd( for homework, music, etc). 8-16 gb memory, windows 7 premium. also, get a good cooler, try newegg. com and browse around. try razr mouses and keyboards, they have really cool functions such as macros. also, i would get one of those cool nzxt cases, but that is extra. idk about moniters because thats never really been much of a problem.

Planning to overclock?
I don't know about obvious. He said I want a computer for BF3, DB3 which means he wants a new desktop. Then he said BUT I want to draw and do video editing. When you use the word BUT, it means disregard everything before the BUT so the obviousness isn't clear.
"Building a new computer" on the title means he wants to build a desktop. Also the thing he had after the "but" doesn't disregard the fact that he wants to build a desktop, but rather shows that he hold higher priority on "editing videos or drawing on a tablet" than he does with "playing any games, BF3, D3 and Guild Wars 2."

Since you had mentioned it, I guess it wasn't as obvious as SoulXIV and I had thought. xD
You have to buy a drawing pad accessory unless you are fine with drawing with your mouse.
I believe he is getting a tablet like the Wacom Bamboo as stated "drawing on a tablet"
Buy a new desktop with one of those top graphics cards that has at least 4 Gig RAM.
VRAM doesn't determine the GPU performance. Also, considering how this generation and last generation GPUs with 4GB of vRAM will take up most of that $1200 budget, this isn't possible, unless he get something like this which isn't worth it considering how the GT430 is too weak to used it all and will perform just like a GT430 with 1GB of vRAM.

He was obviously talking about the desktop, he said it more than once.
OT: I can recommend some peripherals. The mouse is really personal preference, so I suggest you try some at a local store. For keyboard, the Sidewinder X4 is a popular membrane keyboard and the Razer Blackwidow is a cheap mechanical keyboard, it uses Cherry MX Blue switches, which I prefer over Red. I'm really in love with the Asus VH236H monitor, so I suggest you get those. You're probably going to have some trouble running Battlefield on your budget because 2x monitors=$200, OS=$100, and keyboard and mouse (And maybe mousepad, because those are important)=$100, so you only have $800 max on your computer.
