Basically if u want the maximum output choose pirate if u have more %str than %luk and vice versa, but note that wont change much, so pretty much choose w/e u like. Also thief have higher resell/sell value which automatically means that pirate is cheaper as someone already said. I went with pirate since the thief CRA, especially the hat looks extremely horrid
Make sure you buy the correct Fafnir whip blade. There are two, looking excactly the same, but one goed with the Pirate RA stuff and the other goed with the Thief RA stuff. It is actually in small letters written below the stats off the weapon.

What are the stats on the thief whip? If it's a good whip for really cheap, might as well go with Thief CRA, since clean Thief CRA isn't all that much more expensive than clean Pirate CRA. Where the funding difference really matters is on the opposite end of the funding spectrum. Legendary Thief CRA is much more valuable than Legendary Pirate CRA, which makes godly Pirate Fafnir whips undesirable since it'll hurt the resell value.

I got thief because it was around the time Shades came out so pirate stuff had a spike, But now I would go with Pirate
