Sniping - bidding on an auction roughly close to its closing time in order to minimize the amount of meso's needed to win the bid without having to confront other buyers' retaliation to your offers. Just want a rough estimate seeing as I have a feeling that a few of my items that I've put up have been sniped - and so have considered putting a duplicate item up for auction but at a much higher price. And even with the "+10minute rule" sniping protection that basil implements...not everyone is that keen on watch on a specific trade. Confession: I snipe a lot. ;D
