legend of korra quick question

sooo does anyone know how korra can use the avatar state if her connection to the previous avatars has been severed? i thought the avatar state was a combined force of all of the previous avatars' strength inside of the current avatar ... unless i'm wrong?

kk thnx!

The creators mentioned that some people would move on to the spirit world if they had a strong enough connection and if they wanted to. This is why Iroh moved onto the spirit world after he died.

Personally though I don't think that her connection will ever be restored to the way it was before, however it might be possible for her to meet the personal spirits of some of the past Avatars and get some guidance in the Spirit World.

@Avatar: Yet again you are implying his body has perish. You keep stating hes dead hes dead. There is no proof what so ever that he is dead on top of that NOONE KNOWS HOW HE GOT TO THE SPIRIT WORLD. Thats the mystery. People keep saying Irohs dead NO HES NOT. He said it himself he had a choice to live in the spirit world and he did. The spirit world =/= heaven. You don't die and choose to go there. We just dont know how Iroh got to the spirit world but we know that he clearly is NOT DEAD.

No I am quoting from the episode where korra meets iroh. He literally said he left his material body and decided to live in the spirit world. When korra and tenzins daughter entered the spirit world they became unconscious so obvious if iroh left his body then his body would have perished being unconscious for that long.

You are so wrong, think about it logically iroh was old aged when katara was in her teens now look at katara in legend of korra. he even says that he left his body in the material world when he was done meaning he died eventually from being unconscious for too long or he died a natural death. Also is aang is dead so if he did the same thing as iroh then he can also reside in the spirit world.

@Avatar: The avatar state is the SPIRIT RAAVA connecting with the avatars. Aang is not in the spirit world he is dead. People are yet again assuming that she has no way of getting in the avatar state. You remember TLAB? The Swami said Aang would never be able to go in the Avatar state again and what exactly happened? This isn't game of thrones where the main characters are just gonna die off, this is an ultimate good beats evil and she will reconnect with her past avatars.
I dont know why people think she will never be in the avatar state honestly you have to be stupid to believe that. I mean they had Iroh in the "spirit world". Do you really think the AVATAR the bringer of peace and harmony and the bridge between human and spirits would be spiritless?
Being in the avatar state is not the same as talking to spirits. The avatar state is when the avatar links to his or her past lives and can speak to them. its obvious this wont happen anymore because either korra or the spirit said that the link between her past selves has been severed. She can probably speak to aang in the spirit world if he's hanging around there though.
why was her connection severed?
Unalaq guy took ravaa from Korra's body and kept attacking it, destroying connection to her past lives permanently

Also, to answer OP's question, Ravaa holds the power of the avatar state, not past lives

All they can really do is give korra wisdom, or if she ever were to lose her bending, have her bending returned to her.
Ravaa is the only important one, IMO

It includes Raava as well. Avatar Wan was capable of going into the avatar state as well.

As I recall, the Avatar state is Raava's powers. Korra lost her connection to her past lives but she is still connected to Raava which means that she should still be able to use it. Not sure if her Avatar state is weaker though since she has no ties with her past lives; then again, Avatar Wan never had a past life and his Avatar state seemed pretty strong.
